I will be sending something (fruit basket and birth announcement) to my OB/Staff and my RE. Yes, I paid them both a lot of money and they did thier job but they also gave me an opportunity that I would not have had otherwise.
I am going to... I hate to admit this, but Im not big on "tipping", however my dr and staff have been so wonderful with me... I call a lot and my dr even changed a trip becasue it is around the time i should be delivering... Not sure what Im going to get him but I noticed the 2 receptionists write on scrap paper so I getting them each a nice pad with their names on it.

I will definitely be sending my OB and staff a thank you/gift. I would not be successfully expecting if it were not for him and his office.
Being 39, and wasting years and years of TTC and $ on MD's who were not qualified to assist me (or refer me to an RE)....I am so grateful to finally be in touch with a specialist who will be the reason I am becoming a mom!
TTC for 12 years. m/c 2009.
BFP on New Year's 2010.
never thought of a gift - I gave them a birth announcement. But, now I will be giving him a "gift" - service of a lawsuit. Long story but he messed up my c-section and now I have asherman's syndrome, leaving me infertile and with increased risk of cervical or uterine cancer.
I thought about sending the nursing staff at the hospital some snacky stuff when I get there so I'm sure to be their fave but never really thought about something for my midwifery practice.
my first ob who delivered my twins got nothing from me well...i am suing her though for a few things one being HIPPA voilation and her/anesthia md are getting suit for malpractice. LONG LONG STORY!
My OB for my newest is wonderful i sent him and his wife (office manager) gift certificate to restaurant i know they love! they are wonderful people

With the twins I wrote my OB a heartfelt thank you note and I gave the office an edible arrangements chocolate covered fruit basket. They were so good to me the entire time and my OB )there were 3 in the practice but I most comfortable with him) came in on his night off to deliver the twins. So I really thought that it was the least that I could do.
Re: Is it customary to give a gift to OB after delivery?
Nope.
He's doing his job, and although he does it very well being an OB doesn't come with tipping.
Married and it feels so good!
This is my plan.
That's a great idea for the receptionists!
