I am wondering if anyone else out there is having a difficult time getting baby to learn to fall asleep on his/her own. My girl will only fall asleep for me if I nurse her, or if I am driving her around in the car. She will, however fall asleep on my husband when he holds her and sometimes rocks her. She seems to sleep through the night pretty well most nights, so she seems to be able to soothe herself back to sleep during the night, she just can't seem to fall asleep initially without help from us.
Napping is the same problem. I can't get her to sleep unless I nurse her or drive her in the car, only when she does wake up after stage 1 or 2 of sleep, she usually can't soothe herself back to sleep. If she is in the car, sometimes she can, but if I was nursing her, I usually have to give her the breast again for her to fall back asleep (then I unlatch after she falls alseep). By the way, she won't take a pacifier. I've tried many kinds ... she gets mad when I try to give her one!
Re: learning to fall asleep w/out help
I'm sorry that I can't be more help but I didn't just want to read and not respond.
How old is your daughter? My DD would fall asleep nirsing or in the car most often. But she also liked her swing to sleep in around 3 or 4 months. She didn't like being swaddled much but loved being in the moby wrap or in a sling. Have you tried any of those? She still won't sleep with me. She falls asleep on her dad all the time but won't with me. It's strange... like I was just a source of food and comfort while she was nursing and can't offer her that any more. So maybe just try seperating yourself from her. unlatch her riiight before she falls asleep and rock her or put her in the swing or bouncer.
Good luck:)
