sitter vs supported sitter

what do you consider the main difference? I thought that sitter meant that they sit independently, all the time and do not fall over and supported sitter means they still need help, obviously. DS can sit by himself, but still leans and falls over sometimes, yet his age is classified as a "sitter" based on the gerber foods rec's...should he be sitting all by himself, all the time, and not falling?

Re: sitter vs supported sitter

  • Supported sitter = use of high chair/bumbo, etc. to sit.

Sitter = unsupported sitter.  Can sit on their own without anything.

ETA:  That's honestly just a Gerber thing.  Once LO has tried that fruit/veggie and not shown allergies you can move on.  Stage 2 is no thicker than stage 1.

  • Eh, I gave LO "sitter" foods when he was still tipping over.
  • DS doesn't need a bumbo etc. and can sit on his own but will still fall sideways, backwards, etc. I consider it sitting unassisted since he can mostly sit alone.

I don't think it's a problem if he doesn't.  DD is just getting to the point where she can sit without toppling, and even then it depends--she still tips over sometimes.

And re: Gerber, I don't know what sitting has to do with whether my kid is "allowed" to try their Hawaiian Delight.  They're a bunch of fascists.

This!  That's just Gerbers recommendation..you don't have to follow it exactly.

It can mean that, but that's not the true definition of supported sitter vs. unsupported sitter. ;)
