How to store a crib mattress?

I got a crib and mattress over the weekend for my moms house since LO and I will be moving in with her since DH will be in Afghan when i have LO.

Im using a bassinet for the first couple months so dont need the crib set up yet and im wondering if there is any special way to store the mattress or if it doesnt matter?

 Thank you! :)

  • I would just leave it in the plastic it came in.

  • If it's still in the plastic, it's fine to leave it. If you've already taken it out and you're worried about dust or pets getting pet hair on it, you can just put one of the new crib sheets on it, and replace it with a clean sheet before the baby is born.
  • Definitely store it with plastic around it. If you don't have the original plastic or want more protection, stores like U Haul and the like have mattress covers (for fadult size mattresses, but you can just wrap it around and tape it), also that plastic stuff you put on the ground when you paint a house (sorry, can't think of the name) would be good to wrap and tape.

No matter what, you want to make sure you use plastic to protect it and then wipe it off with an anti-bac wipe when you get the nursery ready.

Oh, that's a good idea!  You can find a package of it at Target and it's cheaper than Home Depot or Lowe's.  Just a plastic tarp.

  • Its still in the plastic.  We brought it home and its just sitting in the living room now.

So it doesnt have to be like standing on it side or laying flat or anything?  I guess i should i specified that sorry.  :)
