2nd Trimester

Anyone else with low placenta?

I just got back from my doc and he said the spotting is not from RLP but because I have a low laying placenta.  I know the deal with it usually correcting itself and what-not.  He told me no sex til my 20 wk u/s and light activity only.  Were you told anything else?

Oh- and I am 16 wks- my ticker is off temp in honor of a loss from PgAL.

Re: Anyone else with low placenta?

  • mine was 2 cm away from the cervix at 18.5 weeks, but since I haven't had any spotting I didn't get any restrictions. Seems like about half of the ladies on here with low placentas get put on pelvic rest though, even if they don't have spotting.

Good luck, I hope it moves!!

  • That's the drill I'm on, although it was originally for a hematoma at 16 weeks and now a low-lying placenta found this week at the big U/S.  Pelvic rest, take it easy, don't lift anything over 15-20 lbs.  The only additional restriction for me is that I'm not allowed to travel, but that may be specifically because I had a heavy bleed (OB doesn't want me too far away from a hospital if a problem develops quickly).

  • I was diagnosed with low placenta at my 20wk u/s. I've had no bleeding and haven't been put on pelvic rest. Only a very few cases don't correct themselves is the good news. The other good news is you may get a follow up u/s later in the pregnancy to make sure it has indeed moved. I have my follow-up at 28 weeks.
  • I had some mild spotting early on in my pregnancy, so I was put on pelvic rest and light activity. I miss running SOOOOO bad, but walking is helping me feel like I am keeping my fitness up a little. The no sex thing is really starting to suck. I feel like I am a virgin again, and yet, here I am with this huge pregnant tummy! :)

I have the same issue right now! I was diagnosed with marginal previa (placenta is at the very edge of the cervix rather than covering it) at my 20 week u/s and given no restrictions. Two days later, I had a heavy bleed at 4AM and ended up in L & D for observation. Everything was fine, but I was placed on pelvic rest, light activity and told not to travel (the day before my trip to Florida Sad ) I have had some spotting since then, and I am trying really hard to rest so I don't end up on bedrest. My follow up u/s is in 2 weeks (28 weeks), but I was told that 90% of low placentas move up on their own as the uterus moves up. For OP, as long as you dont have any major restrictions, just keep taking it easy and there is a good chance your placenta will cooperate and move up on its own!
