Intro and question

Hi ladies,

I have been lurking for a while now and finding a lot of comfort and answers in your posts and decided it was time to introduce myself. I like a lot of you never thought that I would be on this board!

I had my little boy Jacob on Jan. 15th exactly 2 months early at 31wks 4days. I had no warning that he was coming until labour started. He is doing really well and was considered a "feeder and grower".

But, we had our first set back today. ?He has not had any episodes of bradycardia since Jan 20th and was doing so well that the monitors were supposed to come off tomorrow and they were going to send us home Tuesday. Well, today he had another brady that required stim. I was just wondering how old your little one was when they stopped the brady? Jacob is 34 and 4 today and I really thought we were done with them but I guess not :(?

Re: Intro and question

  • I know you're disappointed, but 34.5w is still REALLY early for him to be coming home. My daughter stopped around 36w. Good luck!

  • I'm so sorry you are dealing with a setback!  That was the absolute worst part of my NICU experience!  The nurses told me ahead of time not to get my hopes up because whenever you get a tentative date for your LO to come home, they almost always have some sort of "episode" to set you back again.  That happened to us too, but it was a desat, not a brady.

My LO was born at 34 and 6 and had 1 brady about 3 days after... so hopefully after next week you will be okay....  but of course everyone is different.  My fingers are crossed for you!!!

  • DS was born at 34 and had episodes through 37.5 weeks.  He came home at 38.5 weeks.  Our hospital didn't remove the monitors though until you were about to walk out the door.

  • Our boys had alot of As&Bs right up until 34.5 weeks.  Nathan came home at 35.5 weeks and Joey came home at 36 weeks.

  • My daught skylar was born on the 15th also at 29weeks :+)

She came home on a monitor on Feb 28th because she started to have bradycardia right around the sametime as your guy. She had no turn alarm when she was home but had the monitor till she was 6months.  At about 4months she only wore it at night

  • I think Andrew stopped having Brady's near his due date.  You're almost there!
  • My girls never had any brady's, but just wanted to send along some hugs and support. The NICU is such a heartwrenching and emotional time, but soon enough your little man will be home with you!! My girls both went home at a gestational age of 36w2d.

  • My LO is still in the NICU he is 35 weeks and 2 days he still has bradys mostly with feedings though. But the nurses have said several times that they usually grow out of them by 37 weeks so I hope that helps.
  • Welcome!

Sorry about the minor setback. We had a similar issue. I took off work (again) and then prepared myself for him to come home. I was SO excited and then he had a brady and it set us back 4 days. Just hang in there! Sounds like he doing really well especially in terms of the NICU. He'll get it. I hope you get to take him home soon.

  • Well, DD bradied until she was about 4 mos old.  Not kidding.  We had monitors at home and they would go off about 2-3 times a day with REAL episodes.  It was no fun.  The sleep test she had the night before discharge showed 3 bradies, but they felt that was ok for her.  So IMO, Jacob is doing great!
