So if you know there's a blizzard heading up the east coast, why would decide it is a good idea to pack up your 2-month-old baby and drive from VA to New Jersey?

Because that's what my BIL and sister are doing tomorrow. Snow is expected to start around noon. They are leaving at 9 a.m. and think they are going to beat the storm all the way up the east coast.

This reminds me of one of those " I Survived..." episodes about to happen. Not a smart idea.

Hopefully she has the good enough sense to at least eat her DH if they get stranded and need sustenance. That is one way to get him out of the picture.

where in VA to where in NJ?  It's not more than a 3 hour drive depending on where you're starting and ending.  If they get an early enough start, I don't really see it as being a big deal.
