3rd Trimester

DH wants to know

how the OB can feel our sons head without popping his bag? LOL

DH has been to every appointment and is on sponge mode. He can repeat everything the OB says about me or the LO.

Yesterday was our 39th week appt and our OB did an internal. I'm still 2CM and 50% effaced. My cervix is extremely soft (guess the sex worked) and his head is way down. She is hoping that he comes on his own this weekend and if not we will be in on Monday morning at 2am.

After a long discussion about his weight, circumference, and head we thought this was the best option. If I wait it out and he becomes overdue the percentage of me going into a c-section is really high. We discussed induction and she said based on a graph OB's use I'm in a less than 10% percentile of having a failed induction. I think she called it the Bradley Square or something similar. So, we decided that an induction was the best plan for us.

I'm still hoping and trying everything to get him out by this weekend naturally. She was actually waiting for me to come in this past weekend. She said she delivered 10 babies this weekend and hinted maybe the moon had something to do with it. It obviously didn't work for me.

Re: DH wants to know

  • HA!  This happened to us last week.  MW felt LO's head and DH was so confused and astonished....GL!!!!!!!!

  • If you baby is head down and you are dilated, the baby's head is what is pressing against the cervix making it dilate.  So in essence, when he sticks his fingers inside the 2 cm dilated cervix, there's the head!  And the bag of waters is tough stuff, it usually takes more than a soft touch to rupture them.

GL!  I hope he comes for you this weekend!  But if not, I'm sure your induction will go just fine.  Smile

  • I'm not dilated at all but you can feel one of my babies heads.  She is *right* on top of my cervix, which has shortened significantly over the past several weeks.

I would imagine in the "normal" case that the inside of your vagina is, well, whatever shape it is.  But, if the baby is down low enough, it changes the shape...so that the outline of the head can be felt.

    Hope that makes sense...
