for starving her kids. Her three year year weighed something like 12lbs. I believe she got 30 years, but the sentence was cut.
The woman on Dr. Oz knew she was overfeeding her kid and doing something wrong. Her kid was not just 'fluffy' -- her kid was being endangered. These extremes likely warrant more extreme actions.
Re: A vegan mom was sentenced to prison
Yes, thats very sad.
However, the description of "vegan mom" is unnecessary. It implies that because she was vegan that she starved her kids.
This..I'm sure there are lots of vegan moms iwth children of healthy weights....she was just starving her kids and not seeking medical attention to help if there were other issues with them.
yikes! We are light on dairy, and though we aren't vegan, there are days that we eat an all vegan diet- and days where dairy is included- but my kids are ROBUST. ( not fat, but w is 30 pounds at 12 months, and J is 32 pounds at nearly 3 years. They are both VERY tall, and have adorable thighs and bellies!
there is no excuse to have your child withering away- I'm sorry, I just fail to comprehend how that happens, and then blame it on a lack of animal protein or byproduct?
no.
try again.
I don't know if there is one
This. I'm vegetarian, although not vegan, and my kids eat vegetarian 95% of the time and they are all perfectly healthy. They are on the thin side, but so are MH and I, and they aren't starving, just thin.
well, she was vegan and thus, fed her kids what she thought was a proper vegan diet. the description was an important part of her case. a total failure as a vegan, obviously. I don't think it means everyone will now point fingers and scream, VEGAN! CHILD KILLER! at the next vegan they meet, but the description, I think, was necessary!
You missed the point.
no, I got your point! I just don't agree with it!
no- I agree it was necessary to point out. I think the point of many vegans is to be able to proclaim their vegan-osity to the world. (not ALL of them- but I think a lot of them are pretty much into it as a lifestyle and image moreso than an eating preference.)
Also: it is a big deal that she did this in the name of a dietary habit rather than just straight up admitting it was malnutrition.according to the woman it was the vegan diet that caused her kids to waste away- not her neglect...
This, from BoF. Was she excluding milk from their diet in the name of the "diet"? rhetorical question.
Me with my littlest.
StepMom to P, Mama to R and E.
SAHM and weekend NICU nurse
Looks like someone missed the point alright.
And it wasn't vccake.
I think parents starving their kid to death and feeding their kid to death are the same thing in my book.
The kids are suffering and that sucks!
