Postpartum Depression

other options?

Has anyone on here tried anything else other than meds to help depression and anxiety? Homeopathic remedies, herbs, diet, exercise? I'm currently on prozac but I'd like to eventually get off of it. Thanks

  • My friend swears by a cocktail of herbal things like SAMe and fish oil.  She is doing well now!

    Therapy is good, as is fish oil.  I've heard that once you start taking it, if you miss a dose, you'll notice.

    I'm not sure how old your LO is but if you've been on Prozac for about six months or so, and you are feeling good, I'd talk to your doctor about weaning.  If you go down in dose and it doesn't work, stay on for a little longer.  GL!

  • exercise, getting outside, support groups were non-med things that really helped me.
  • My mom has a long history of depression/anxiety and was on medications on and off my entire childhood.  The medication that worked best for her was Wellbutrin, but it caused the worst side effects (with her stomach).  Anyways, she ended up taking fish oil (she uses Advocare-- OmegaPlex) and swears by it.  I just ordered some and will take 2 per day for 3 months and see how I feel.  I was just prescribed Zoloft last week-- and am trying this as a last resort because I don't want to get ramped up on meds right before we want to TTC again.
