3rd Trimester

Ugh... huge snowstorm this weekend!

So, my EDD is a week from today, and of course, they're calling for a huge snowstorm in my area this weekend.  It's supposed to start Friday morning and continue through Saturday evening, with accumulations anywhere from 12-26 inches!!!  We live about 20-25 mins from the hospital, and we have a small SUV, but if they don't plow our roads, there's no way we'll get out... and with my luck, I'll go into labor during the storm. :)

So, I'm having a small freak out.  My father-in-law lives 5 mins from the hospital, so we're thinking of going to his house during the storm, just for the peace of mind.

Do you think I'm overreacting?  What would you guys do?

Re: Ugh... huge snowstorm this weekend!

  • Nope, not over reacting. DH and I stayed with my parents during our last snow storm because they never clear the road DH and I live on. If we went into labor, no way were we getting out!

  • Personally, if you would be comfortable at your FIL's I would head there!

  • If it is anything like the snow we got last night you will be fine. I am in Silver Spring...

If staying at FIL is easier then go for it...

  • Nope. Go to your FIL's house. Better safe than sorry. We're getting the same storm with the same accumulation possibilities. I'd definitely go to FIL's house if I was in your situation.

  • I would stay with your FIL. 12-26 inches would be impossible to get through unless they clear the roads right away. Of course I am sure if you were at your house and really did go into labor they would have an ambulance come get you.
  • No I just posted about this.  I am also due next Wed.  What hosp. are you going to?  It is GBMC for me.  This has been my fear all long

  • So funny! I'm at GBMC too!  The thought of snow obviously crossed my mind, but I figured what were the odds, you know?  Clearly, the odds are pretty good, unfortunately.  Do you live close to the hospital?
  • Ugh this storm is going to ruin my shower this weekend too!!

I would go to your FILs, it really is better to be safe than sorry!

  • I just posted above about this!  If I were in your situation, I'd stay at FIL's definitely.  I'm in Montgomery county, about 2 miles from the hospital with a 4wd.  I think we will be okay if I go into labor (I'm 38 weeks, so it's possible).  I'm not really freaking out, but if the hospital were further I would be!
  • Hi there DC girls--

Seriously, what is WITH all this snow?  It does look like it's going to be a doozy--they're starting to speculate at least a foot, if not double that.  And we all know how awesome the DC area is about snow removal...snort...

Let's just keep an eye on the weather and try to be prepared.  You should know by late Thursday night whether you should head over to your FIL's on Friday.  Keep your options open.

Me?  I'm not due yet (35 weeks), but I'm delivering at Georgetown Hospital--which is only 2 blocks away.  I've joked too many times that I can crawl there if necessary--I hope I haven't jinxed myself!  DH is working in Baltimore for the month, coming home on weekends, so my biggest concern is he won't come home.  And we have our childbirth class!  But then again, we might not have it if there's tons of snow...

    Good luck, Capitol Girls!

  • I am in Montgomery County also and my hubby keeps joking he will strap me to the back of his ATV to get to the hospital 20 minutes away if we cant get out. If this one is anything like the December storm we didnt get plowed out for 2 days. Good luck to all of you :-)

We're in Owings Mills... so about 20 mins away.  I'm thinking we'll probably head over to FIL's on Friday at some point and spend most of the weekend there.  Kinda sucks, as this could be the last weekend DH and I have just the 2 of us, but oh well.  To all East Coasters who are due around now and are expecting the storm this weekend, GL!!!

  • My parents live about a mile from GBMC and want us to come stay there but DH does not want to so we are waiting till tomorrow to decide.  I have my 39 week appointment.  As of last week I had no progress and was still sealed tight so we will see what she says this week and go from there.

Good luck keep us posted if you have your LO

  • I would wait to make a call until Thursday evening/early Friday and see what the predictions say.  If it's supposed to be as bad as last December's storm, then I would definitely hang out at FIL's house. It will be good for peace of mind and it might be fun to hang out with family during the storm.

I'm not nearly as close to 40 weeks as you, but I worry that a storm could cause big problems.  We're in Arlington, but I am delivering at Inova Fairfax (halfway between work and home).  It's at least a 20 minute drive without traffic.
