Classical Music

Anyone play it for LO in utero?

I just started doing this and I didn't really have any good Classical Music in my iTunes library, so I bought from iTunes "The 50 Most Essential Pieces of Classical Music."   So far, it's got it all, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Gershwin -- all the top composers.  I highly recommend it.

I hope Mariana loves it as much as I do.  It brings back so many memories for me.  I started playing music at a very young age and I've always loved it, but I wound up growing out of it after college when I had no more band or orchestra to play in.  Hopefully, this will become a passion for little Mari. She's going nuts in there right now as it plays from my phone in my crotch Stick out tongue

Re: Classical Music

  • I did play a little bit in utero, but mostly I would just listen to it during the day.  It helped calm me down and I figured I was passing that on to the little one.  I did start playing a lot of classical music to Rowen as soon as he was born.  Now he loves music.  He wants to listen to it in his room and he always wants me to turn the music up in the car.  I think it helped him to love all kinds of music, because he has favorite songs that are nothing alike.

Oh and thanks for the recommendation, I'm going to have to get that.

  • I started around 25wks with the local classical radio station.  I just left it on in the house, not actually up to my belly.

I loved it because it created such a calm atmosphere in the house, even for the dog.

When Lil Miss was born, I put it on and it was like she instantly recognized it. Now, we switch up and listen to a lil bit of everything  - classical , jazz, country, rock, hip hop, oldies, I mean everything.  She loves it all.  Lil Miss really responds to music, so I am glad we started so early with it.

  • I always laugh when you tell us where it is coming from.

I know that DH would like us to do this for the baby.  He is a fan of classical music, (I can't really stand it to be honest), and has mentioned putting the IPOD on my tummy.

When did you start playing it for Mari?

Just recently - they say you could start whenever, but I just got around to it.

And Morgan, I don't know about your baby's hearing, but according to your ticker, S/he's URINATING! Stick out tongue

    LOL at this.

Thanks for the classical music rec, I am downloading that right now.  Hopefully she likes it!

  • yup!  DH loves classical music (me not so much) so he would put on the headphones on my belly every night for LO.  Now after bath time and and when the LO is in his room we play a CD of classical music for him to listen to.  Hopefully he will learn to appreciate it, unlike me.
  • I don't play classical music, but I use the BabyPlus thingy-ma-bobber!

  • I did. I used the Mozart Effect, which I use in my classroom too. He loves hearing it now. It's almost like he recognizes it....
