Poss. dumb question: humidifier vs vaporizer

I had Abby at the doctor today because she had a slight fever and coughed up some mucus.  Luckily it is just a cold.  I was told to use a vaporizer in her room when she sleeps. 

I know this may be a dumb question but what is the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer?  We have a humidifier but not a vaporizer.  Is it the same thing?  I'm just wondering before I run out to target and buy one and if there is a good kind to buy.

Justin had a cold and a fever this week too! I swear to God he got it at Music with Mar and I think you've just confirmed it. Now I'm no germaphobe but those 2 kids ( boy & girl to the right of Melissa) looked like they had the plague or hadn't slept in 3 days.

I don't know the answer to the question but we're using (what I think is) a humidifier that has a little "cup" for a Vicks solution. Justin was up coughing like CRAZY several times Friday & Saturday night. Finally last night we got a humidifier and he slept 7pm-9:30am. SO worth it.

i don't know the diference.  we have a warm and a cool mist humidifier(both walgreens brand). I like the warm mist better for his room b/c i swear the cool mist drops the temp in the room.  the only problem with the warm mist is a child would burn themselves if they put their hand over it.  we only run it at night when he is in his bed.  i really want the crane cool mist that is a dragon.  it looks like a fire breathing dragon.

Just googled and found this article.  My babe is sick too and the doctor told us to get a cool mist humidifier so I ran out and bought one without even thinking there was a difference between that and a vaporizer. 

We got the Crane Cool Mist Duck, well, because it was the only Crane model they had and I read that it was quiet....it is.  Can barely hear it at all.

Thanks for the answers.  We did end up buying a cool mist humidifier so hopefully that will help her out. I just wish I could give her something to make her feel better.  She looks and sounds miserable.

Melanie-I wouldn't be surprised if they both picked it up there.  Those kids did look like they had something or were getting over something.

OMG.. Eve has THE WORST COUGH.. no fever though.. I was just telling Jeff earlier today when Melanie mentioned Justin was sick that I wondered if we got it at Music Class. Sounds like it!

We have a cool mist vaporizer..The Crane Penguin one..  I don't know what the difference between that and a humidifier is. I call it a humidifier sometimes..
