Who's using a dresser as a changing table?

How are you securing your changing pad to the top of the dresser? We are using a regular dresser, it doesn't have the little attachable walls like a changing table. We were just going to buy a contoured pad, but now that I'm looking at it, I am not sure how it's going to stay there.

  • Our changing pad has two tabs on one side that you can screw into the back of the dresser

  • I plan on putting a changing pad on top of a regular dresser, but I haven't actually bought it yet so I haven't thought about the logistics.  I know they sell that grippy shelf lining stuff at Home Depot... maybe you could put that down if the pad tends to slide around a lot?

  • We put a piece of that plastic/sticky drawer liner stuff underneath the changing pad on DS's dresser.  It's never slipped around at all.

  • We had the same issue with my DD's.  I could not find any good way to secure it.  I had no problems but I was extra careful.  Most people will flame me and I am not recommending it, but it did work for us and we had no issues.  My DD was very good on it and did not mind getting changed.  We no longer use it for her and stopped around 1 years old.  Good luck.

    ours does too.

  • We got a box that you put the pad in that attaches to the top of our dresser.
  • We used the end top of our dresser for ds and we will use it for this baby too.

  • Good question.  We have a dresser and I'm hoping we get the changing pad - the contoured one, at the shower this weekend.  I'll be interested in seeing what suggestions are!

If nothing else, I'm sure we'll rig something up to secure it.  My DH is kind of a MacGyver when needed...

  • Our pad had two straps that get screwed into the back of the dresser.  It's on there quite securely.

  • We are using a regular dresser and just plopping the changing pad on top. I don't see it being a problem since there will be a hand on her at all times. When she gets bigger and is super active and squirmy we might find it's easier to change her on the floor.

  • use that rubbery shelf paper from target walmart, etc.  WONT BUDGE.  two+ years in the running for us and never a problem!
  • Our changing pad has these strips of rubbery grip stuff on the bottom that keeps it from sliding around.  It's not the most reliable thing, but then again I will not be leaving LO by himself on the changing pad anyway.

  • Ours screws in to the back and we placed a peice of dycem under it. Works really well. We have a 15month old foster child and we used it to change her and she was squirming all over and it didn't slide. Good luck:-)

  • We didn't use anything, just the baby changer mat. We never stepped away when ds was on it and never had a problem.
  • e bouight the changing top from bellini to go on top of the dresser to avoid this issue...
  • We do that.  Originally we put down those sheets that you line your cabinets with but the rubber left marks. So this time we just hope he doesnt move a lot.

  • You can actually buy a contraption that retro fits to any dresser and becomes a changing table that pulls out and everything. I have one that was given to me and I am not sure I am going to even use it since I am sure I will be changing DD in her crib, or wherever is most convenient, most of the time. Then you put the pad on that. If you weren't halfway across the continent, you might have lucked out!!!

  • We are using a dresser as a changing table. We have a Rumble Tuff changing pad that mounts to the back of the dresser. It has very secure snaps that connect the pad to the back of the dresser. When done using the pad, you can snap it off. https://www.rumbletuff.com/

This when the furniture was delivered, they just attached the pad to the dresser by screwing in the tabs to the back

    This.  Totally stable.

My changing pad has never been secured to the dresser. I'm always right there when I change DD, and I never leave her on that table alone. No need to secure it. Her weight is enough to keep it down, and when she was a baby she was too small and light to make it go anywhere.

My dresser also has raised sides and a raised back, so that helps.

Glad to know that my plan has been tested and is a success! This is exactly what I planned on doing.

  • our changing pad came with the screws to put it on the back of the dresser too, but we never quite got around to it (DD is 2 now) and I wish I had put something down.

The top of the dresser has some marks on it from sliding the pad back and forth. I think they'd come out with some polishing, but I'm not sure.

  • We have a contoured pad on top of a dresser and the bottom of the pad has those rubber skids on it and it stays put well.

  • I was planning on using some of that no-skid rug padding.
  • My dresser dosent have the Sides like some of them do but it has a Strap & snaps to keep the Pad on the top of it.

  • me! I am not totally sure yet because we don't have the changing pad, but it will be something similiar to what you put in showers not to slip on. I have seen smaller ones that look nice for purposes like this.
