Acceptable to call out b/c your boyfriend has a cold?

Just curious. Because when I worked in corporate advertising, I know it wouldn't fly if I called in sick, b/c "my boyfriend has a cold and I just can't leave him".  Umm....He's 33.

I'm aware I'm in a grumpy mood, and my scenario isn't that of a real job but my sitter texted me the above this morning.

I love her, I do, but..........really?  I know this is the lack of sleep talking, but I have so much to get done this week with a shower I'm hosting this weekend, that I'm just flat out irritated, instead of not giving a crap, like I normally would.

  • Wha?!?!?

Is she 15?  WTF?!  no, you do NOT call out of work because your grown boyfriend is sick.

  • Wait so you had to miss work because she has to tend to her sick boyfriend? Conveniantly on a MONDAY!

    lol

  • Um no. If you are sick, ok. If you have a kid and they are sick, ok. If your boyfriend/husband is sick, no. I think a grown man can take care of himself unless he needs to go to the hospital.

  • um, no, that's not your lack of sleep talking, it's your common sense.

it's ridiculous!   If that were my sitter, I don't think I could bite me tongue.

  • If he JUST has a cold, then no, there's no reason for her to not come to work. If he has some other health problem, along with a cold, then maybe I could see it.
  • No, not acceptable.

  • She has no kids of her own (SHE is 30), he JUST has a cold, and no I don't have an out of the home job to go to- but I had a shitton of things to do,had planned to get done.

This grates on my nerves, esp. b/c we are SO good to her.

  • Totally unacceptable.  Did she at least word it as "I really don't want to risk exposing your kid to germs"?
