2nd Trimester

Gagging

I never had any vomitting but have had a gag reflex symptom which is driving me nuts.  I had it for most of the third month, which my doctor said is normal, and then it pretty much stopped but the last week or so it has come back.  Its always in the morning when I first wake up.  It feels like I'm going to throw up but its just gagging - happens a couple of times usually.  When it happens more then 3 or 4 times in a row I do usually end up 'spitting up' but its just mucous that comes up.  Anyway, I was happy to be over it but now am annoyed that its back.  Anyone else have the gagging thing?  Seems like whenever I tell someone who has been pregnant about it, they look at me like I'm crazy.

  • I have the same problem. For me, if I drink something right away and try to eat before I brush my teeth, it helps so much.

  • Yes!!! I didn't have much getting sick but lots of gagging especially in the morning.  It went away for awhile but I have a cold right now and it's back.  I am not thrilled.  I find that sitting down, taking deep breaths (in through the nose, out through the mouth), and sipping something cold really help to get the feeling to pass.

  • I had it really bad in 1st tri.  I has gotten much better but I still have it frequently.  I don't have any advice on what to do unfortuntately.

  • I had a lot of gagging that turned into vomiting in the 1st trimester.  Now, I don't get sick, but I have random gagging a couple of times a day.  Sometimes a smell triggers it, other times it just happens.  I'm not much help, sorry!
  • I still have it & have to eat something within 10 minutes of waking up or gets worse.  I think it's all the acid that rises up when you are laying down for 8 hours at night.
  • I have had it since the first trimester and now it comes and goes. I usually gag in the morning and sometimes I'll throw up some mucous and bile. I am still waiting for it to go away...
  • I have had this exact thing since about 12 weeks (never have thrown up).  It is totally different than the nausea I had during the first tri.  Sucking on hard candy helps me fight the urge to gag.  I still have it and I hope it goes away for all of us soon.
