2nd Trimester

Contractions/UTi

So I spent the morning in the hospital ... I was having cramps and blood in my urine... I called my doc and he said to come into the hosp so that they could just make sure its just a UTI.... Well I did this and I had to see the resident doc b/c my doc was delivering a baby.... They monitored me for an hour or so... In fact I do have a UTI but the nurse tells me I had a few contractions during that hour... She said not to worry but of course I am...

Im only 26 weeks pregnant Im so afraid of going into preterm labor... has anyone ever has an experience like this or know anything that will put my mind at ease?

Re: Contractions/UTi

  • I've been having contractions since 12 weeks. Many people have them all the way through. As long as they aren't affecting your cervix, there is nothing to worry about. Hugs!! Hope you feel better soon!

  • I had a days worth when I had a bacterial infection. Doc said all is well though. If your doc isn't concerned I wouldnt be too worried, yes I know easier said than done but atleast it doesnt seem too serious if shes not having you come in every few days or something.
  • I went in Friday night with contractions. It wasn't from a UTI or being dehydrated (as I had 80 ouncs of fluid). My doctor told me to take it easy and doesn't seem too worried about it. I guess that infections can cause contractions and once the infection is being treated there is no need to worry.

  • I'm just getting over a UTI and everytime I would pee I'd get bladder spasms and contract. I ended up calling in sick to work for a day, staying in bed with my feet up and drinking as much fluids as humanly possible. Also, cranberry juice is a HUGE bladder irritant so he advised me to stop drinking it while I was have spasms (i thought i was doing something good). Once the spasms stopped he recommended diluting it 1/2 juice 1/2 water. Once I was on the antibiotics for 24 hours i felt so much better. OB wasn't worried about it, says contracting is common with UTI/bladder spasms. The most imortant thing is to get it treated, stay hydrated and rest. And of course, notify OB if they become regular or pregressively stronger.

  • What meds did they put you on?  See they told me to drink cranberry juice...
