Did anyone sleep train without eliminating all nightime feedings?

We started the "Sleep Lady Shuffle" tonight with DS and it was not too terrible for the initial falling asleep stage.  However, I am really worried about the many times he will wake up tonight.  Usually, I nurse him back to sleep with each night waking (and there are still MANY).  I know that he is physically capable of sleeping through the night without eating at his weight and age-but it is something he has never done before.  So, I am willing to still feed him once or twice at night until he gets used to not eating at night and starts eating more during the day to make up for it....I just don't want to confuse him or not have the sleep training be effective by nursing with some wakings and not others.  Anyone have any experience with this??

  • We did sleep training without weaning the night feedings first.  Once he got the falling asleep thing down, I weaned back the feedings.  We now are down to going to bed @ 8 and waking 730-8am.  He eats at about midnight and 5a.  Used to be midnight, 330 and 5a..working on cutting back on 1 more feeding, then I'll eliminate them all. • The sleep easy solution says to wake them up an hour before their regular feeding time so you are not giving them mixed signals.  I kept my LO's 2 feedings for a while then cut back to just one at about 5am.  HTH
  • We did Ferber but would still feed her once at night and then eventually she dropped that on her own after a few weeks of learning how to sleep around 7 mos. Basically at the beginning she would wake up every 2-3 hours and we would do Ferber (let her cry but go into comfort her every 5-10 min) but then around 1 or 2am I would pick her up and feed her at that waking in case she was hungry. I also figure waking 1 time in like 10 hours was better than every 2-3 hours!
