Babies: 3 - 6 Months

so tell me about this "4-month wakeful phase"....

because for the last 2 weeks or so, my DS schedule has completely changed out of nowhere. He was sleeping great (at least 5-6 hours for his longest stretch - sometimes longer), and he was napping pretty good (morning, afternoon and evening nap usually a good 45 min each at least). Now I'm lucky if I get 2 hours between his nighttime feedings.

I have googled it and read up a little bit, but what I've read can be kind of vague.. so I guess I'm asking if anyone else is experiencing this or has more info?? TIA!

Re: so tell me about this "4-month wakeful phase"....

  • sorry but it is horrible.  It just finally ended with my dd getting a tooth.  It is when they become more aware of their surroundings so they may want to play in the middle of the night or eat (when they sttn prior) or just cry for no reason.  I also noticed that when she used to be able to sleep through certain noises she woke up to them at that point.  Hers lasted forever...literally till yesterday when I found a tooth.  She started STTN at three weeks and the four month wakeful started at three months three weeks.  There are a few things you could do.  You could try offering a pacifier before giving the feeding...but usually if their screaming their is not much you can do.  Also, make sure when you wake up with them you just use low lighting and don't really put the lights or tv on...(which will really wake them up).  Hopefully yours goes through it quicker than mine did.
