How often do you change diaper at night?

My daughter is EBF and still wakes every 2-3 hours at night. I change her diaper each time she wakes but am wondering what everyone else does. It does wake her up but I can usually get her back to sleep pretty easily. Should I alternate changing diapers at feedings if it is only a wet diaper? I hate thinking of her sleeping in a wet diaper though... But, she may sleep better? What do you do?

  • We use Pampers overnight diapers so now we don't change her at night unless she does wake up and we smell something.

  • I don't change her diaper at all at night. I feed her right away and she goes back to sleep. I change it first thing in the morning when she is awake for the day.
  • After 10pm, I will only change her diaper if she poops, or if it's totally full of pee. Pampers are pretty absorbant, and it pulls all the moisture away from her skin (unless it's totally full, of course), so unless she's complaining, or she's pooped, I don't bother with night-time diaper changes. It wakes her up too much, and I'd rather she just eat, burp, sleep. Fortunately, most nights she only wakes up once or twice for a feeding.
  • 1-2x.  We change the diaper when DS2 wakes up for his feeding and then change it a 2nd time if he poops during that feeding.  Other than that though, I do not wake up my child to change a diaper.

  • I use pampers baby dry at night, and I have to change them almost every time she gets up or else they will leak all over the place. I've been looking for some overnight diapers, but I'm having a hard time finding some in her size.

    Same unless he pooped.

    I do the same thing.

  • She usually nurses about every 3 hours.  I change her before she goes down at 8 or 9 pm and then usually only once during the middle of the night.  It just wakes her up too much to change her.  She doesn't seem to mind and she never poops at night.

Huggies Overnites are great but as far as I know they don't start until size 3 and I could only ever find those at BRU for DD1.

Right now we are in size 1-2 Swaddlers and they hold a lot.

  • i only change if it is poopy - and now he rarely poops at night and sleeps a lot better and goes back to sleep right away after eating.  i do think not changing his diaper helped.
  • I don't change her at all, unless she pooped of course. We use a diaper in a size up to prevent leaks. She's typically up once a night. I found that she started sleeping better when I didn't change her. Changing her just woke her up more and then it would take her much longer to get back to sleep after eating. Now I'm back in bed w/in 10 minutes from first hearing her wake up.

Use a size up in baby dry :) That's what we do for now. If we need to switch to overnight ones at some point, then we will (I use Huggies Overnights for DD1 and order them on Amazon), but for now, 1 size up in baby dry works great.

  • My dd wakes up once a night usually to eat.  I change her every time before she eats, and usually she goes back down right after she eats.  Maybe try changing before feeding if you don't already?  Usually I'm only up for maybe 20 minutes this way.

  • It really depends. If the diapers full then ill change it, and he usually stays asleep the whole time so I got lucky with that one. But if hes not complaining or if its not super full then I don't bother.

This is what I used to do before he STTN, now I just change him in the morning.

  • I don't change her at all anymore. She gets HYSTERICAL now if I change her at night. So I just don't unless I were to smell poop but now she never poops at night.

This.  Also, we use Pampers overnight diapers in size 2

  • when he was still waking up at night, we changed him every time. Now, he sleeps anywhere from 8 - 13.5 hours, so he doesn't get changed at all if he doesn't wake up.

Same here.  Somehow, DS does not poop at night, and hasn't since about 6-7 weeks.  He's more of a late morning kind of guy.

  • B is EBF and wakes up throughout the night. I do not change him (he doesn't poop at night). He gets changed when he wakes up for the morning
  • If he's been in bed for 8 hours or more and wakes up I go ahead and change him

  • She still wakes 3-4 times a night and we don't change her.  She wears a nighttime cloth diaper.  She's next to us in her bassinet and she just comes into bed with us to feed and then back in her bassinet while still half asleep.  Changing her would just wake her up fully!  She never poops at night, so it hasn't been an issue.
  • we cloth diaper for nights different than days cause she 'STTN' and we co-sleep... she wakes 1-2 times to feed but we no longer change her unless she poops which rarely happens at night now... she blasts around 7;30-8;00 which is now my alarm clock LOL

special night time dipes keep her bum dry and rash free without changes in the night... she and us get more sleep that way.

  • Unless the diapers are close to full, or they have a poop, we don't change them until the morning feed.
  • I change DS once during the night.  He wakes a lot as well and it is pretty wet when I do change it.  But he cries every time I change him at night (he always laughs during the day).

  • since he started STTN, he hasn't woken up once fussing about his diaper, so we haven't changed him since i stopped feeding him in the middle of the night.

  • once. But she only eats about once at night. When she was eating every 2 hours then I had to change her a lot more.

  • We don't change at night unless it's dirty. Disposables are very absorbant so we don't worry about it. Changing diapers wakes him up too much.
  • We do not change her unless she wakes up in the middle of the night, which thank goodness she does not
