How do you pronounce Madeleine?

DH really likes the name Madeleine (pronounced Madalyn) but most Americans I have met pronounce the ending as "line" not "lyn". I don't mind the name but I don't want LO to grow up having to constantly pronounce her name and spell it for people. I have to do that with my name and while I am use to it now it was annoying when I was a kid. I would prefer to keep the traditional spelling. Madalyn and all the other variants just look odd to me. I also hate the nm Maddy.

I always think of the books, and it had to rhyme with "two straight lines," so I'd say Mad-a-line, until corrected of course.  However you say/spell it, it's a beautiful name, so at least the mis-pronuciations will still sound pretty! LOL.

When I see "Madeline" I'm never sure if it's pronounced -lyn or -line since some parents intend it one way and some the other way. But with the spelling Madeleine I would automatically think -leen because of the "e" in there.

Spelled the French way, Madeleine, it should be pronounced Mad-uh-lenn. I love the French way, and I hate Mad-uh-lyn or Mad-uh-line. Though -line is preferable to -lyn. Anything that ends in -lyn sounds trashier.
