Babies: 3 - 6 Months

When your pedi's office is not open what do you do?

I called the nurses line and they said to take him to be seen, so we venture out in the snow to the urgent care, the dr said to give him tylenol and benadryl and wait it out, sounds weird but went to the pharmacy and there is no such thing as infant benadryl and the pharmicst adviced against giving it.

So my drs office is closed for the weekend what would you do?

(He spiked a 102 fever last night?have it down to 101 rectally?and has raspy lungs, runny nose/ congestion, and cranky beyond belief ... really concerned about his breathing)?

Re: When your pedi's office is not open what do you do?

  • Benadryl won't do anything for a cold (though it can be used in babies for allergic reactions, etc - the dose is about 1mg/kg).  And most Peds don't recommend Ibuprofen under 4mo (I usually say wait until 6mo).  Your choice is either Urgent Care or the ER.

That is what I was thinking but wanted to make sure I was not missing something.?

I'd call the on call doc again and if I wasn't satisfied with what they said I'd take LO to Urgent Care/ER...go with your gut!

    this. good luck!

  • My ped's practice shares weekend on-call with another practice. When we call after-hours/on weekends, it goes to the local hospital's nurses line - they can give advice, etc., and if they think it is serious enough, they'll transfer you to one of the on-call docs, which will usually result in a trip to one of the pediatric ERs for an evaluation - they'll meet you there and you won't have to wait!

That is so cool, I wish we had an ER like that... ?I have never heard of that before (one just for pediatrics)

I will call the practice/ answering service back if he he gets worse. ?Hoping we can wait out the weekend without an ER trip. ?
