Getting your taxes done professionally

Last year we went to a CPA to have our taxes done.  We were not going to do it that way but it was my first year as a sahm plus I have a home daycare and did wedding photography.  Anyways, I entered all the info through turbotax just to see how much we would be getting back and  ended up with an awesome amount since we had Bailey.  I figured I might be missing something so H and I decided that we would try a CPA and see what happened since they can sometimes find hidden deductions and he gauranteed his work.  Anyways, we paid around $370.00 and he found an extra $2000 dollars that we got back.  Needless to say it was well worth it for us.  I am not saying it is like this for everyone, but I am glad we did it and will continue to from here on out.

  • I have always gone through a CPA.. I don't trust myself to do it myself, plus I just don't have the time, patience or the brain for that kind of stuff. Congrats on that extra 2K that's awesome!

  • My brother is a CPA. We have recently become much better friends, lol. I still use turbo tax, but he'll look over it all for me.
  • Before we got married DH used Turbo Tax. I've always used a CPA though and we will this year for sure.
  • I totally agree.  My bf's uncle has his own company that does taxes, and he always finds tons of deductions for us and gets us a lot back.

My bf's friend got back $4000 dollars more when going to him instead of doing it online and made the same amt of money both years.  It's totally worth it!

  • Holy crap!! You paid $370 dollars to have your taxes done?? Or am I reading it wrong? LOL.

We only pay our CPA $100. Total.

if she has two self-employment forms and i would assume the CPA had to create "books" to do the tax return, that would be fairly reasonable.

$100 for a CPA to do your taxes is a pretty good deal.  i'd say $150, depending on the area is about standard for a 1040 and no additional schedules.

  • we used a CPA 2 years ago. He found us an extra $200 ( we got $80 instead of paying $280) but it costs $250 to use them. Will not do it again since I no longer have a home based business, it is much easier now.
