advice please

So the other night i was having pain in my groin & into my lower back which i figured was RLP well I was walking for our bedroom into the kitchen and i got a shooting pain from my groin down through my leg i went to step and fell right on my belly i got up more shocked than anything..SO told me to call in to make sure so i did & the dr said to go to the er & get check out. me & SO went in had to stay there for like 5 hours but baby was fine..she said i would probably just be sore for a couple days...well today we had a check up at the OB & they told me they "threw away" my urine sample by accident & wanted me to leave another one..so i did when i came back to the room SO was gone so I sat there really confused & the Nurse Practicioner came in & asked if SO had ever hit me or pushed me..I said No she asked me agian...I agian said No because he is great to me...It really upset me that they did that...Is that a policy or something? I have been thinking all night about changing OBs but Im almost 27 weeks is that to late to change...I told SO what the asked & he felt like they were all giving me the evil eye while he was walking out...am i being stupid for getting upset? I need some advice..

Re: advice please

  • I would probably be a little irritated too just because you are there trying to figure out why you fell & if the baby is still ok.  I also completely understand why they did what they did.  I'm a nurse & sometimes when people seek care for injuries it is the ONLY chance they may get to tell someone and ask for help.  Also a little fact that is not often known, most domestic abuse begins during pregnancy.  It's a highly emotional and stressful time for some people & they begin to become abusive as a reaction to the stress.  I'm sorry you are upset.  It probably would have happened at any OB office.

  • thanks for this..so you guys kinda have to ask just incase... I know SO would never hurt me in any way.. but im glas im not crazy for being upset.
  • I'm a nurse too and was just going to the say the same thing!  The rates of domestic violence are highest during pregnancy.
  • We ask with EVERY visit or admission.  I'm actually shocked that they didn't ask you in the ER.  You know that you are in a safe situation & now so do they!  Hopefully you won't need to worry about it again.  Except when you get admitted for labor.  They will ask, so be ready!
  • I would be glad they asked.  That shows they are paying attention and really care.
  • I can understand how upset you would be. Your SO is truly wonderful and you're scared and they're questioning you.

However, they have your best interests at heart. They are scared for you. Try to imagine how many women they see. Try to imagine how a woman who *was* being abused might act in the same situation. Doctors (and teachers!) do have a legal and ethical responsibility to report any suspicious behavior/possible abuse suspects. The doctors were just trying to do their job.

I know it was upsetting, but I would rest assured that you have a great doc!
