FuzziBunz OS- am I doing it wrong?

I'm thinking maybe she's just not big enough... I decided to test out the FB OS today, and I kept adjusting sizes and trying different inserts, but DD managed to pee through them all day- I mean, the insert was soaked, the diaper was soaked, it went through her clothes and on her blanket. I know the leg fittings are tight enough (actually, twice, I had them too tight because they left ringlets on her poor little leggies). But I'm thinking maybe it's too loose around her waist because the pee is going all the way up the back of the diaper to the top of her waist, even on the insert.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

  • how often are you changing diapers?  if the insert is totally soaked, then you need to change more often.  if anything is coming up the back, you can try tightening it.

typical newbie mistakes are: not putting the diaper on tight enough (don't worry, you won't hurt them!) AND not changing often enough.  you need to change cloth more often than disposables.

ETA: if your baby is only 3 weeks old it's totally possible she's just too small for a one size diaper.  usually they're good starting at 10-15lbs.  i would try it on the smallest setting possible for a 3 weeker, and still not expect it to work well just yet.  you need some leg fat on those babies to seal them up good!

  • My guess would be she's not big enough yet AND she's too wet. Try changing a little more often or add more absorbency (though remember that newborns are soaking wet). It may help or you may need to wait and see if they fit better later. For us, the FB OS didn't work well at all and I ended up selling all of them because I could count on one hand the number of times they DIDNT leak....Give it some time to see how her shape changes and her bathroom habits will change some, too. A newborn can soak through anything, but it may get better later. I didn't sell mine until 7+ months because his shape continually changed and one diaper would fit great one week and a different one was better the next week. Sorry if this is all over the place....if it doesn't get better with extra absorbency or changing more often, just put it aside for a few more weeks and try again.

  • I agree with the other posters.   I think OS diapers can be tricky.  DD still does not fit into her OS happy heiny and only now fits her OS FB.  She is a tiny peanut though.  She is actually in her FB now - it is my least favorite and we are due both for a poop and for laundry.  If she poops and stains this one I am ok, but jsut in case, I am about to run laundry - just waiting on that poop already!   LOL

  • I always had a problem with FB leaking up the back when she slept on her back. The insert would be dry in the front and soaked in the back - and it always leaked. I would change more often :)
