Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleep training for staying asleep

DS does drowsy but awake just fine falling alseep but he has gone from STTN 9pm-7am to waking up at 3am, 6am and then 7am.  Since I know he can make it until 7am without nursing, I just give him his pacifier and try to soothe him back to sleep which takes about 30 min.  He doesn't really cry he's just awake.  Is this the dreaded 4 month wakeful?  If so how long until I get my sanity back?  I got so spoiled with him STTN.

Sleep training is just for babies who don't fall asleep right?

Re: Sleep training for staying asleep

  • We did sleep training for frequent night wakings.  He was up at least every two hours before we did Ferber.  If, however, you think this is just a phase I'd try to wait it out first.  JMO though :)

  • What you're currently doing sounds like what the pedi told us to do for DD who takes 20-30 minute naps.  She said that when she wakes up to hold her, rock her, whatever but not to engage her or start playing.  We tried it today and it worked.  She woke up and we snuggled her until she fell back asleep.

When DD was waking up at 4am, I put her in bed with us.  I think she finally realized there was nothing worth waking up for.  I think (in my expert opinion - haha) that you should keep doing what you're doing.
