Multiples

Nurses preg w/ multiples...

Just wondering when you went on bedrest or when your drs are planning on you going on bedrest. I asked the Dr about it yesterday and she kinda seemed like "ehh whatever you want to do" which really wasnt the answer I wanted- b/c I will work 'til the kids start falling out if its up to me. I tried to explain I work on an intense trauma floor and she still didnt seem to take what I do seriously... or maybe I am being too cautious?  Thoughts?

  • This.  I went to 16 hourse at 20 weeks and done working at 24.  It was way too intense....I also work in the trauma unit and it's just too dangerous.

  • I went out with PTL at 26 weeks, I work on a very busy OB floor. I'd def be more cautious because you're carrying triplets.
  • Do doctors count?  I work 80 hours per week and take at least 2-3 24 hour calls each month - where I scarcely even sit down in the entire 24 hour period.  My MFM and I are in the agreement that we have no set exit date for working.  I will just work until my body or cervix or babies dictate otherwise.

But triplets I think is another story.  Most triplet moms I've known have stopped working at around 20 weeks or so.

Best of luck!  You can keep those babies in there for the long run!!

  • Ya I see a Peri group...thats who is so 'whatever' on the situation.

  • Well I don't work on quite a floor. I work in Maternity and SCN, however my MFM asked me to leave work as soo as I could and I left at 20 weeks. I ended up on modified bedrest at 23 weeks.
  • It's weird they are so "whatever" and peris.  I wasn't doing nursing when I was pregnant with the twins, but years ago I worked in a trauma ICU and I can tell you I wouldn't have been allowed to according to my peri.  In fact, he told me that from 16 weeks on, he didn't want me lifting up my 2 year old daughter. And I didn't even have any complications like a shortened cervix, etc.
  • I dont do floor nursing but w/ twins I think my OB  wouldve taken me out of work around 20 some weeks if I did... and with trips, for sure. Sounds like he'd write you out whenever you want tho so maybe you should choose a week? GL
  • I had twins and went off work at 22 weeks....never really had complications but my doc wanted to play it safe. Didn't want me on my feet for 12 hours and at night! I didn't end up on bedrest till 32 weeks....
  • I am a nurse as well and work in a very intense unit. I went on leave at 16 weeks but most Peri's would say 20 weeks or so with triplets, no matter what your job is.
