Babies: 3 - 6 Months

today I realized my LO in his infant carrier is too heavy...

and now i'm panicking! My LO is 16.6lbs and 25 1/2 inches. Our Eddie Bauer carrier says till 22 lbs and 29 inches, but i just can't hold him in there anymore! What did you ladies do when this happened? We are getting the Graco MyRide 65 that's on sale at BRU this weekend, but as far as what to do with the infant carrier, should I still use it wiht the stroller or just move him into the "big boy" part of the stroller? He fits in the carrier to just ride in but I want to avoid getting it in and out of the car all the time to put on the stroller. I can't believe my big boy is that heavy already! I need to do some weights! lol

  • Rylens too heavy in his too. We're getting him a convertible carseat pretty soon. And I let Rylen sit in the stroller. he actually likes it.

  • And what would be the advantage of having him in a convertible carseat vs. an infant seat that you don't take out of the car?

If he is happy in his infant seat, I would leave him in it until he can sit up well enough to sit in a high chair at a restaurant (more difficult than the ones used at home, restaurant ones don't have as much back support and no head support). Or if you never go out to eat, until he can sit up in a grocery cart.

I have a bad back. I have always avoided taking the carseat out unnecessarily. Park next to the shopping carts at the store so you can just move the carseat a short distance.

  • Like PP said, I would try to avoid making the change until you have to. We just put DD in her convertable seat because she hit the length limit on her infant carrier and it is a total pain, esp now that its winter so she has to have on a coat and shoes and I still wrap a blanket around her. So much easier to just put a blanket or two over the infant carrier. Also, DD wasn't able to sit in a shopping cart or restaurant high chair until 6 mo, so whats your plan for those situations? I never felt like I carried in the infant carrier much, since like PP said, I aways park next to cart returns and just have to lift the seat into the cart and go. Otherwise, its just short in and outs. Sure, its heavy, but its so conveinent.

  • With the convertible you will have to buckle them in and take them out of the car seat while it remains in the car.  Just do the same with the infant seat - no reason not to keep using it since your son still fits in the height and weight requirements.  Just because it does come out of the car doesn't mean it has to!
