Babies: 3 - 6 Months

rolling over??

Hi everyone! Just wondering if you guys can share when your baby rolled over. My family has been super paranoid that DS hasn't rolled over yet and the questions just don't stop. They keep thinking he hasn't because he may be "too fat" (grr....yea he's bigger than most, but can ya gimme a break!..ugh..). Anyhoo, thanks in advance for the replies, it will get my mom off my back! lol

Re: rolling over??

  • I think your guy is still way too young to be worrying about that! My little guy still hasn't rolled over & I don't think it's going to be any time soon.

  • I have a skinny kid who didn't roll until just before 4 months.  Your family is nuts.
  • My 3.5 month old still hasn't rolled. She hates tummy time and only flails her limbs as if I'm torturing her. She seems developmentally up to speed in all other respects so I'm not too worried yet.

    LOL....yes...yes they are...

  • DD still hasn't rolled either. My mom told me yesterday they found my baby book and that I rolled over for the first time at 6 months.

  • Yes he is still too young.  You probably still have a good 2 months til this happens.
  • My DD just started rolling over (only from stomach to back) when she was exactly 4 months old. Your LO is still pretty young for that!
  • DD just started rolling belly to back in the last couple weeks and still doesn't roll back to belly.  Don't worry and don't listen to your family! :)

  • I think that babies used to roll over earlier back in the day, since we all slept on our bellies.  Now that we put our babies to sleep on their backs, they don't learn as early.  So, your LO is definitely not behind!!  5-6 months is the norm, even later sometimes.
  • Mine hasn't rolled over yet, and he's pretty close to six months!  In his case, weight is kind of a factor, as he is a chunky monkey, but in general babies are rolling over later now than they did when we were kids because of the "back to sleep" campaign.  Your family should relax.
  • I think rolling from back to belly is typically around 6 months, right? Belly to back maybe 4? Your kid is WAY young for them to start worrying - they need to relax!

    This! Exactly!

  • My DD just rolled tummy to back the other day for the first time. She has yet to roll back to tummy, but she's been close a few times. Your LO is way too young, don't worry.
  • no rolling here yet !!!!!
  • Oh my gosh, it's very early for you: don't worry!  My LO rolled tummy to back around 3 1/2 months and back to tummy around 4 1/2 months.  Even now he doesn't do it much.
  • DD just started rolling back to tummy in the last couple weeks, at first it was a couple times taking some effort, now she's a pro at it. She still has yet to roll from tummy to back tho...

  • rolling is a 3-6 month milestone. You have nothing to worry about!

Both my DDs started rolling back to belly at 12 weeks. DD2 hasn't rolled belly to back yet. Well, she did once, but not since.

    This!

  • DS has rolled over once, at somewhere around 6 weeks, and when we shared this with our pedi, he literally cracked up, and said, "That is a fluke!"  And sure enough, it was-- he has not rolled over again, and according to the books, he shouldn't regularly roll over until somewhere around 5-6 months.

  • DS started rolling over both ways at 4 months old. You probably still have a while. oh, ours is a little on the large side also
  • I'm not much help here. DS rolled at 6 weeks from tummy to back. He does it pretty often but he hasn't rolled from back to tummy and shows very little interested in figuring out how at the moment.

  • My son rolled from his belly to his back 2 weeks ago . . but i think it was by accident. he was on his belly and pulled his legs up under him and kinda tipped over. hasnt done it since
  • My LO turned yesterday for the first time. 5 times in a row. And today, I got nothing.

Don't worry about it. He will do it when he is ready. Your LO is still very young to roll.

Ahhh, don't let them make you feel bad he is bigger than most!!!

  • LO started rolling from belly to back a couple of weeks ago, but he sleeps on his belly (flame away-it's either that or he won't sleep at all).

Also, just FYI, the rolling kind of freaks them out at first, so we went from Finn sleeping through the night to waking up every couple of hours because he was rolling in his sleep.

  • Don't worry!!  DS rolled belly to back around 3.5 months and back to belly at 4 months.
