Stop working

At how many weeks do you recommend to stop working.  I asked my doctor he said that my body will tell me but I sort of need to plan so I make sure I have everything at work ready while I'm away.

Re: Stop working

  • Good question. I've been wondering too. It seems to vary person to person and of course job to job. I want to work as long as possible without putting me or the babies at risk. That said it's still impossible to know. I will hopefully have the babies between end of May and Mid June. However I was just thinking that I want to get all of my work transitioned on a 'just in case' basis by April. This way if something happens and I do have to go on leave - at least no one is scrambling at the last minute. Then I'll play it by ear after that.

  • When I was as far along as you are now, I started to get things in order at my job.  I made up a spreadsheet that delegated who would do what when I was out and gave detailed descriptions and samples about that task/project.  I discussed all of it with my boss and the people that were delegated that way if I had to leave the next day I would be ready.

Everything was going along ok but then my dr put me on bedrest at 32 weeks due to an increase in my contractions.  I was able to point to the file I had prepared and they were able to pick up where I left off.

  • mentally I was done by about 30 weeks.  I'd been on bedrest since 24 weeks and working from home.  I would work 7am-6pm with an afternoon nap break.

But leave would have eaten in to my FMLA, so I went until 34w when I delivered.
