Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If your baby routinely slept sitting up...

How do you make the switch to sleeping on her/his back??

DS has been sleeping in his carseat, and I'm trying to make the switch to the crib, it isn't going so well, he doesn't stay asleep longer than 5-10 minutes. I have him in a sleep positioner, so he feels more snug... Any other suggestions?

  • It may be a little late in the game to start, but you could try swaddling him.  That would make him feel snuggled...
  • Loading the player...
  • Try an inclined sleep positioner. It has a little wedge.
  • we are transitioning dd from our bed and we have rolled up blankets on either side of her in her crib to make he feel more snuggled - it works pretty well.

  • I just put DD in between rolled up blankets, on her side, for the first time. She cried for a couple of minutes, then has been out for an hour & half now (much longer than usual).  No startle reflex, which is what usually wakes her up repeatedly as she is falling asleep on her back, and her hands are more easily by her face.  I won't do this at night, but don't see a problem with it during the day when I am watching the video monitor. Maybe this will work?
  • You could try a bouncy chair as a transition, then try putting him on his back for naps in the PNP while you're in the room.  My LO is still in a bouncy chair.
