post c-section mundane ?s

so for some reason I am focused on really mundane issues regarding this c section.  maybe its my mind protecting me from focusing on the fact that I am getting cut open in 2 weeks lol.  here are my assanine questions:

they are keeping all my tubes in until the next morning (foley, epidural cath for pain relief, IVs)  so when they take them out, do they automatically give you the undies and the diaper/pad right away, or do they let you still sit on that wee wee pad thing for a bit?  why this is concerning me I have no idea, so sorry if its dumb.

Also, we have two SUVs - upon release how hard is it going to be to get into that car and squeeze myself into the middle of the two carseats?  or should I give it up and sit in the front?  Again assinine question, don't ask me where my mind is.

Re: post c-section mundane ?s

  • C-sections are major surgery, so no question is an asinine question :)

For me, they left all the tubes in till the next day, and once the urinary catheter was removed they gave me these mesh undies with huge thick pads to wear right away. Not the most comfortable things, but they're manageable. Also I would recommend sitting in the front seat of the SUV, it's just easier then squeezing between 2 car seats. It's also easier to climb up into an SUV then to bend down to get into a car, so having and SUV is a bonus.

    Good luck! :)

  • I had the undies and pad right away (after they took me potty and showed me how to use my squirt bottle).

I had to ride in the front seat of our SUV.  No way was I going to be able to get in between 2 carseats in the back.  I can barely do that now when I have to!

  • I had no problems getting in the back between the car seats, just make sure you move the front seats up so you have room to manuver.

  • I cannot remember the sequence of events of removing the foley/iv and using the pads - I seriously cannot remember if it was that day or the next morning, I guess I was pretty out of it.

But you should use the wee wee pads in addition to the mesh undies/pads.  There could be leakage and you don't want to have to deal with them changing the bed sheets.

Also I would suggest using a rolled up blanket or towel to hold against your abdomen when you try to stand up and move around.  That helped me a lot.

I had my babies come home seperately from each other so I can't give advice there.  I am sure you will want to be in the back with them but you do not want to injure yourself trying to get back there.

Good luck - you are going to do great!!  I was very stressed about my c- recovery but it was much easier than I anticipated.

  • I didn't wear undies for the first 24 hours, they just kind of lay one of those thick pads under your crotch so the blood goes directly onto the pad.  Don't know how hard it would be to squeeze between the seats (probably not too easy), both pg's I sat up front with DH on the way home.
  • After they took everything out, I was told to let them know when I needed to go to the bathroom. Once I did, they helped me waddle to the bathroom, once there they gave me the pad and mesh undies.

  • thanks ladies for humoring me..... I think all in all the next day is going to be a little "messy" no matter what lol!
  • when they removed my cath and everything- they also had me get up and go to the bathroom for the first time- and cleaned me up... it's humiliating - but they see it all day long - so they don't mind that you end up peeing yourself and have blood dripping down your leg :) lol

there was no way i was going to be able to get into the back of my minivan - i sat up front. it was a 10 minute ride home- they survived without me back there :)

  • They gave me the undies & massive pad right away.

I had no significant problem fitting in between the twins' seats in the back right away (and we don't have an SUV! lol) It was just slow going & a bit uncomfortable, but no problem.

If you can do it, though, sit in the front. They will likely be out cold in their seats on the way home, anyway!
