I hear you - I so would rather hear someone's possibly incredibly unfounded opinion on here than google things for myself.  This is not a sarcastic answer in the least... 

It's a site where you can list & rate all the books you have (or have read), compare to friends, read others' reviews of books, etc.  Yeah, way too much of last night's internet time was spent looking for books that I'd read when I was younger to rate & add to my profile.  It also (I believe) lets you kind of see what books others are wanting to get rid of so you could possibly do a trade, has some quizes, some giveaways, lets you compare compatability with friends (I'm 90% compatible w/ Lotte, about 81% with Dobie...). 

I'll admit - there are some flaws, especially w/ the compatibility thing, but it is a very interesting way to get new book suggestions, and to keep track of your own library, if you so choose.
