Alimentum & Nutramigen ?

We're trying to "re-set" DD's tummy and address her colic &AR. She is almost 7 weeks and is having a god awful time. She was 4 weeks early and feeding her has been hell.

She does okay on soy but pedi wants to try this move with rice cereal. I'm on board but curious if anyone has experience with these formulas helping. Also, I think she did much better on the Enfamil Soy rather than Similac Soy The pedis tell me it's coke vs. pepsi but I notice a change in her amount of spit up and ability to poop-both were better on Enfmail. I selfishly perfer the similac since you can close the containers but obviously want what is best for her. Do you think the same might be true regarding the brands for this or is it just a crap shoot? Thanks Ladies.

Re: Alimentum & Nutramigen ?

  • I use Alimentum and it has done wonders. My friend tried both Alimentum and Nutramigen for her baby who had severe AR and was also on medication. She liked the Alimentum much better. She said the Nutramigen upset her DD's stomach and she had some really weird poops with it so she switched to Alimentum.

  • DD is on Alimentum (has been since 5 weeks).  From what I understand these two items are pretty much the same in the fact they they have broken down protein that is easier for babies to digest; both are soy & dairy free.  We have been on Alimentum since we switched (Pedi recommended it).  DD does not do well on the Alimentum powder so we buy the Ready to Feed Jugs.  They are pretty much the same price (I, like you, like the resealale jugs).  We will stay on Alimentum as we are scared to change..."don't fix it if it's not broken" is out motto w/DD.

It is a juge expense, but I would pay triple what we already pay to see DD happier.

  • Alimentum changed my baby!!! He is so much happier! Ask your pedi to write you a prescription for it.  Mine did and I get it for FREE!!!!!

  • J is on Nutramigen. We call it "liquid gold" due to the cost but it is an absolute miracle worker. We had a totally different totally happy baby within 24 hours of switching. We had been on Similac Advance but simply went with an Enfamil product b/c that's what our pedi had samples for that day. She gave us a bunch of cans to get us through a 2 week test period.
  • We have used Alimentum since DD was 6 wks old and it is amazing,  We did not try Nutramigen because once the Alimentum worked, we didn't want to try anything else.  DD had digestive issues (not the normal rash or green poo like associated with an allergy)  She had miserable gas that would keep her up and screaming for hours on end.  She also had a lot of reflux type symptoms but didn't have them everyday so there was no way to diagnose it as reflux.  We saw a huge difference after a little over a week and by three weeks she was a new baby.
