Babies: 3 - 6 Months

DD and excessive spit up (help!) (sorry long)

So everytime I BF DD she has excessive spit up. I mean to the point where I've had to change clothes and wash furniture. She projectile vomits and I know it's not a ton of BM but it just comes out with force and no warning what so ever. The kicker is that when she is fed BM from a bottle she doesn't spit up at all. Nada Nothing! The pedi told me that she may be getting too much from the breast and that I should pull her off sooner. So I have been doing that and DD screams. And she still does it. She doesn't eat for that long normally anyway maybe 5 minutes 10 max. And what she spits up ranges from undigested milk to chunky digested (sorry it's gross). She's gaining weight so that's not an issue and the pedi thinks she may have some sort of reflux but since DD isn't bothered by the spit up she said not to worry about it. I worry because when she eats in the middle of the night I have found wet spots on her mattress so I know she's spitting up in the middle of the night which scares me cause I don't want her to choke or anything (we have a video monitor but still) I burp her and she'll do it. I won't burp her and she'll do it. I'm at a loss here. Has this happened with anyone else? She only started doing this about a month ago so it's a pretty new thing.

Re: DD and excessive spit up (help!) (sorry long)

  • my DS does this. pretty frequently too. he never gets BM from a bottle, cause he won't take it unless i am not in the same zip code. i asked my pedi, she said that at 16 pounds (@4 months) that i had nothing to worry about. i asked if it's reflux, she said no. she's not an alarmist in any way, she's a really old school pedi, and she says its normal, and if there's no fever or discomfort when he does it, to wipe it up, change clothes and move on.  her exact words.
