Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How can I get my DD to like milk?

She won't drink whole milk at all really.  Occasionally, but not consistently.  I still nurse her in the morning and evening (we're working on cutting out the after daycare feeding), but that's really the only milk she drinks.  I send her to daycare with a sippy of milk and everyday I bring it back home with me.  Any suggestions?  We tried mixing whole milk with breastmilk for awhile, but that doesn't even work anymore (any my freezer stash is gone now, so I couldn't start mixing again even if I wanted to.)

Any suggestions?  I'm even starting to consider seeing if she'll take it from a bottle, which she hasn't used in months. thanks!

That's not a bad idea!  Do you just start putting less and less chocolate in until they'll drink it plain?
  • Maybe make a fruit smoothie with the milk. Add some strawberries, blueberries, banana...HUGE hit in our house!

  • My grandmother would tell you to put a little bit of vanilla in it.  Apparently, this is what she gave us as kids and we loved it.  My mom had no idea!  Might be worth a shot?!  Sorry I have no actual advice.

    oh, another great idea!  Thanks!
  • I JUST got C drinking it this week with Ovaltine. Better nutrition than chocolate milk.

I did some looking on this, and Nesquik actually has more Calcium and less sugar (even in the low sugar varieties of both)! But the Ovaltine has all the minerals. My S loves a little bit of nesquik in his milk. Its how we got off of bottles b/c he won't drink plain milk from a sippy.

  • I mix DD's milk with Danimals, those little kids yogurt drinks. I think they're 3.5 oz... I put one of those in a 9oz sippy cup and fill the rest up with whole milk.

  • thanks for all the good tips, ladies!
  • My pedi actually recommended a 1/4 tsp of Nesquick, the no sugar added kind.  Mix it in DC's cup and after a week or two he/she won't need it.  So far it has worked great!

  • I also used drinkable yogurts.

We used YoBaby peach ones.  They worked wonders.

He loves yogurt, but I couldn't get him to drink anything out of a cup other than water.  If it was anything but water, he'd let it dribble out of his mouth.  But I tried the yogurt in there and he loved it.

He's now on 100% whole milk.  Yay!

  • I wouldn't use chocolate milk but if she likes the chocolate taste, my pedi recommended carnation instant breakfast and mine loves it. Plus he's getting a lot of other vitamins with it. I use less than the recommended amount because if seems like a lot for a little guy.
