steroid shots??

what are the requirements?? Arent all twins considered high risk for early delivery? Im 32 weeks and have been on terbutaline to stop contractions for a while. I asked about the shot and my dr said I dont need it... But i know these babies are coming soon!

Re: steroid shots??

  • I don't know that there are any requirements, but I hear they aren't really effective after 34 weeks.  That said, I asked my Peri if I could get them just in case they might help, and he thought it was a good idea and I got them at 34w1d and 34w2d.  Who knows if they helped, but he said they can't hurt.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • Has the terb stopped your contractions? I asked about the steroid shots today and was told they don't automatically give them to you. Only if I came in with contractions and my cervix was changing. Then they would administer and try to prevent delivery for at least two days (takes two days to get the shots). I don't know if this standard practice or not though.

  • I'm not sure what the requirements are, but I received mine when I was admitted for PTL at 26wks.  I was 50% effaced, and having contractions every 7-10 minutes, with a cervical measurement of 2.5cm.  I was placed on Procardia during my 24hr hospital stay, and was just taken off of the meds and bedrest today.  Yippee :) HTH!
  • I was going to ask for the shots but my peri wound up recommending them at the same appt b/c my cervix had continued to shorten (went from 4 to 1.5 in four weeks).  I've also been having a lot of BH.  I'm sure if I asked my OB straight out he would have said no, but b/c it was a recommendation from my peri he went w/ them.

    I wound up having the shots 32w6d & 33w

  • i had mine at 32w (and 32w1d) after I was admitted to the hospital to have my pre-e monitored.
