HELP! I think I need to sleep train

I've been just going by DD and not really have her on a schedule. But I think I need to nip this in the bud now before the next baby comes and I'm a mess. Besides I'm really tried and would like some rest. What are some good books to read or a good starting point for us? Any advice would be wonderful.

  • Happy Sleep Habits happy child.  Learn how babies sleep and just watch little one for signs of tiredness. It took a few weeks of patience but we got there.

  • It all depends on what you want to do.  If you want to CIO, there's a few books on that.  If you don't, then there are a whole other set of books on that too.  Have you talked to your pedi about this?  Maybe they have some recommendations.

  • The schedule/natural sleep patterns parts of Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child are really good.  Both of my kids naturally fell into the times he outlines.  That book is incredibly disorganized and poorly written, but the info is good once you wade through it.  I personally do NOT like his extinction CIO method, though.

I used HSHHC for the times/schedule, and Sleep Lady for the actual training.  Ferber or the Sleep Easy Solution (timed check ins) also work for a lot of people.

  • I just finished Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. It has worked great for us. I just took bits and pieces from it and adapted it to our life. We have had to use a little CIO as well, but DD really caught on a lot faster than I thought she would. We are still struggling with naps, but things are getting better. She has always been a terrible sleeper.
  • No I definately do not want to do CIO, I just want to get her on a schedule and get rid of the middle of the night feeding. For the most part she is pretty good and will STTN but some night she is just uo till 11 then up again at 3am then wide awake at 6am.
  • I like HSHHC and the No Cry Sleep Solution.
