Baby's eye boogers, sick? or clogged tear duct?

Hellllooooooo!

?

The past two days Kirsten has had lots of eye boogies. They're sticky and yellowish. No red eye, it looks white and fine. Just gooey yucky stuff in her one eye. It also looks like she is crying when she is upset, like tears coming out of it. I wipe it with a warm cloth, but it just constantly looks like there are eye boogers on it.

The skin around that eye is very dry too. Lots of peeling skin.

She has a stuffy nose, I pulled out some big boogies earlier today, and it sounded like she had some trouble breathing out of her nose.

?

Is it a clogged tear duct? a cold? allergies? Its only the one eye.

I'm calling the pedi tomorrow, but wondered if anyone else is going through this, or went through it.

She was fussy all day. Tossed her formula (haha spit-up/puked) on me twice today. and didn't want to be put down at all. She is finally asleep in her swing.

?

Thanks mamas!!!!!!?

Sounds like my little guy's blocked tear duct.  We went to his doctor to make sure it wasn't an infection anyway.  His eye actually crusted shut the first time it happened.

Our pediatrician told us to wipe the crust away, as you did, with a warm washcloth and massage his tear duct with clean fingers.  The tear duct is a tiny bump between the corner of the eye and the bridge of the nose.  We did this for awhile and I never saw the gook again.

    Good luck!

I'm not sure about the nose boogies - could it have been where she spit up out of her nose a little bit, too?  DS used to do that every time he spit up (which was a lot).

Also, both kids had/have a clogged tear duct.  DS actually had it for over 3 months.  I had the pedi look at it at each visit, but it never got infected.  Could the dry skin be from the cloth you're using to wipe it?  I just used a wet cotton ball a couple times a day.  Also, try massaging the duct w/ a clean finger at least 10 time per day.  That can help open it and get the gook out.  The tears you see are because the eye isn't draining.

Thank you! I'll continue wiping it away and hope it clears up. I'll probably call in the AM just in case.?

Sounds like clogged tear duct. We got drops for DD from the pedi & had to do a massage on the tear duct 3x a day. She had it for a year & we had to see a specialist who used a probe to un-clog it. Haven't had any problems since. It was a pain to deal with for a year though. Hope your DDs clears up soon.

Could be a clogged duct and sick. My DD had a clogged duct that went away. All of a sudden on Sat it came back and she was cranky all day by Monday she was sick. Dr said that sometimes congestion can start a clogged duct up again. Good luck at DR tomorrow.
