s/o: How old is too old for a little girl to be topless?

Issues of sun protection aside, how old is too old for a little girl to be topless somewhere like a public swimming pool or beach in your opinion?

Public? My own comfort level says never. I don't judge others at all, it is my own paranoia about sickos out there. I was molested as a child though, so I obviously have my own issues.

I still go topless in public places. I'm going with never.

Seriously though, I'm not sure how to put a number on it arbitrarily. My gut says 2ish ... when they aren't quite so babyish looking anymore. Even though they are still little kids and it''s harmless there are sick f*cks out there. If they're def. sporting some pre-pubescent buddage -- cover it up.

I would never allow my 2 year old to go topless so I say maybe under 1 but I have never allowed my children to be topless in public

I don't like it ever.  In my case, it's because dd is the only girl in the family.  Since all the boys walk around with no shirt on, I need to explain to her why it's OK for them and not her.  Drives me bsc.  I've never let her be topless because I have to figure that at some point she would look at me and say "I always did it before, why do I have to stop now".

I say never in public....I also agree that there are too many sick people out there and I also don't see a need for it. When swimming, I buy bathingsuits for my dd so there is no reason to go topless.

IMO, topless is fine until she starts developing.  I honestly don't get the big deal.

I don't know when I started feeling this way, but to me DD is without a doubt too old to be naked in public or even topless in public and she is 3.

8 maybe?  I would think a little girl up to 2nd grade would be fine topless.

Not trying to be snarky but have you seen an 8 year old lately? It would not be okay for my niece and her friends to be topless at a neighborhood pool.

Definitely not 8 years old.  I would not want my 8 yr old son to see his little girl friends without a shirt on.  They know what naked is by then.

I think potty training age - around 2 or 3 - is when a little girl should keep her shirt on.

Wow 8 IMO is way too old to be topless.  At that point they have breast buds

I still don't understand WHY you would want to do this? I don't see a need for it EVER. If you don't have a bathingsuit the child could wear a shirt or not go swimming at all. Especially in a public place!

I think 3--4ish. I would not think twice if I saw a 3 year girl at a beach with just swimsuit bottoms on.?

 my niece started feeling modest around 5 years old, and at 6 it really started big time.  If someone suggested she "go topless" it wouldn't fly.  I think 2 is the absolute max.

Personally, less than 1ish.  If they can walk, I'm not comfortable with my girls being topless running around.  If they're in a diaper in a stroller or whatever b/c it's hot or they just got out of the water at the pool or beach, then I'm ok with it as a baby.  I've done it at my mom's when we're at the beach or something.  Get them dried off and in a diaper before putting them to sleep in the stroller or sun tent (so they can't/don't get burnt) but that's as babies. Toddlers and up can keep the wet swimsuit on and dry.  In terms of pics, I usually recommend to parents that naked is appropriate through about a year (if that) and topless (like the tutu pics) maybe through 2.
