If your child is done napping but has to at daycare...

how do they sleep at home? I've basically decided that DS is done napping (sigh) because he is awake until 9, 10, 11 p.m. Yes, I've read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and no, it's not an overtiredness thing.

Anyway, he's been going better at home since we eliminated the nap, but the two days he still has to nap because of childcare, he's still awake at 10! I need to be asleep then because I have a two-month old who gets up still 2 times/night.

Has this happened to you and how did you handle it?

TIA!

  • Would your dh be able to put the kids to bed if you went to bed a bit early so you get some sleep before getting up 2x during the night?

DH & I did this when M was a newborn & it worked out great!  Granted we didnt have a toddler in the mix but I think this just might work for you.

Also does he HAVE to take a nap at childcare?

  • DS will not nap, not even at daycare. They give him toys to play with quietly at his nap spot.

  • he doesn't even *have* to nap at daycare-just quiet time-but he always ends up falling asleep and it totally screws up bedtime.  I don't know-I figure if he fall asleep he must be tired, but it sure is a pain when he's up at 10!

    in short-I have no advice.

  • When Pearl was in daycare, she didn't have to nap but she did need to either lay or sit quietly or play quietly. Is this something you could talk to daycare about?
  • The trouble is, he always falls asleep. Maybe I should try waking him up earlier in the morning? I just can't do this every night up at 10pm thing. I can't do it any more. UGH.
