The girl child is on ear infection #35+

Including the ones she's had since tubes, I'm thinking its close to 40. She's not even 4 yet!  My poor girl is taking it in stride and not complaining.

She's already on antibiotics so I"m not going to treat with drops too.  Ugh.

I'm truly envious of moms whose kids have had no EIs or only a few in the short lives.

  • Poor girl. Thats rough. Can they put her on preventative antibiotics? I remember comming across it cause DD had quite a number herself before 2.

  • Has she done the injections (I'm guessing so if she has tubes)?  We just found out DS has to have tubes :(  He's had an ear infection more or less since Thanksgiving.  I think we're on antibiotic #6 and we did the injections as well.  I'm hoping we have better luck with the tubes.  My DS has autism so the last thing he needs is something that could mess with his hearing.
  • Shemico - they don't want to do preventive antibiotics because of fear she'll build up a resistance.  I've asked about it.

Bugmommy - she's got permanent tubes in and so the crud just drains out instead of building up.

My first concern was hearing loss.  She's okay though.  I get her hearing tested regularly.  Her listening could use some work though :-D

  • And by injection, I'm going to assume you mean Rocephin or some other antibiotic.

She's had antibiotic shots before.  I don't like to medicate her unless absolutely necessary...shots included.  So the only times she's gotten them were when she was about to have surgery or if there were multiple infections (sinus, ear, strep, etc).

  • Does she still have her tonsils & adnoids? My son had them removed in November & so far he has not had any recurring infections.

  • Tonsils and adenoids came out in August.

She speaks better and more often so that was a good thing but she's had 2 EIs since then.
