Preemies

new here (son at 27 weeks)!

Hi ladies!!!!

Unfortunately, my little guy wanted to see me a little too early so he was born at 27 weeks, 0 days last Wednesday (the 20th). The day after the c-section I immediately came to this board to start feeling connected with other preemie moms, and honestly, to come to grips that I was now one of you too! THANK YOU for being there for me (even when I was a lurker!) After seeing how amazing all of you are, I wanted to introduce myself so I could start joining in on the conversation!

About myself: DH and I were planning a home water birth until last Wednesday, when I went in for an unscheduled ultrasound. I had felt a lot less movement from the little guy for a few days and just had a gut feeling something was wrong. I was right - my appointment was at 10am, and he was born at 6:20 due to continuing destats, among a few other issues. He's doing amazing - already on the high flow cannula and out from under the bili-lights, and taking 4ccs of breast milk at each feeding, and no other issues (at this point, at least)!!! I'm so proud of my little guy, but it's very, very hard to come to the reality that he's here, it wasn't the way I wanted it to happen, and I got to miss out on a normal pregnancy (I was only a few days into the third trimester!!!!)

Hopefully I'll be reporting in a few months that he comes home healthy!!!! Smile

  • Congrats and welcome!  This board will "get it" so don't ever feel like you are alone...it is an amazing support system especially in the very early days of shock and numbness
  • Welcome and congrats!  I had a sudden delivery after the onset of pre-e and it was really hard but you will get through it.  I am glad you found us.  I am so glad your little guy is doing so well. What is his name?  how big was he?  I am sure he is super cute and can't wait to hear more about your family.  I totally get the morning of a normal pregnancy and the birth that you had wanted.  I am still working through it but it does get better.  I wrote a blog post about it https://darwinsmommies.blogspot.com/2009/08/i-should-have-been-more-specific.html  that talked about how I was feeling at about the same time in our nicu stay as you.  You are not alone.

    Welcome again...Sam

My twins were born at 26w, 6d and they are doing great right now. Feel free to vent, gush or just hangout here any time. We're all here for you. We understand.

  • My Keira was born at exactly 27 weeks.  The NICU stay was very long and full of ups and downs, but I now have a beautiful, healthy  little 21 month old.  Have faith that your baby is in capable hands.  Modern medicine is an amazing thing!  Congratulations on your son and on becoming a mommy.  :)
