Just diagnosed GD - Overwhelmed!!!!!

GD moms I need your help!  I was just diagnosed with marginal GD (two and three hr #'s were slightly high) and am meeting with the nutritionist on Monday (Feb 1).  I want to start eating better now, so as to not have to listen to my DH nag me about what I am eating.  Here is where I am struggling...I don't think I eat all that bad.  What I am discovering is that I probably eat too much fruit and drink too much OJ (I have always been this way not just preggo).

What I need from you all are suggestions and guidance on options.  I am not a fish eater at all and I can only take so much chicken and leafy greens.  Our house is always stocked with Lo-fat Yoplait.

What are some recipe ideas for all 6 meals??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • A lot will depend on how many carbs you can eat per meal.  Most girls have 46 - 60 per mean and 15-30 per snack.  It helps to get protein with all foods.  Fruits don't work well for most people, nor does cereal/milk in the morning.

You'll have to play with different foods once you get your tester so you can see how your body reacts to certain things.  My nutrionist told me no cereal or milk in the morning, but after a week I tried it and was completely fine.  Do you know your limits yet?

  • I found this very helpful.  Pages 10-15.

You'll need to cut out all juice & sugar and not have fruit in the morning.  You need to always have a protein with your carbs and you need to be counting your carbs.

  • I don't know my limits and I think that is a big part of the problem.  I meet with the nutritionist on Monday and the Educator the following Monday.  Maybe I should just try to be smart about what I eat and not worry so much about carb counting until then?

as soon as I found out I started following the meal plans I found online.  The numbers were pretty close to what my nutritionist ended up giving me.   I would start now, but that's just me.  You know that your placenta isn't processing the sugars properly which means that the baby is getting more than it should so the sooner you can control it the better IMO.
