Adoption

Fingerprints question

Good morning!  I'm from NJ and I am a teacher.  I am cleared to be both a public and private school teacher in the state of NJ as well as a coach for HS and MS sports.  My husband is also a football coach and has been fingerprinted for his job.

Both our fingerprints went through the company Sagem Morpho and are digital.  DH also had his ink fingerprints done today because he does financial consulting on the side and needed them done to switch agencies that he is associated with.

My question is that after all of our extensive fingerprinting, will we have to physically get our prints done again?  Or can we give the agency our Sagem Morpho PCN number and have them run the existing prints through the state and federal databases?

I so hope we don't have to make appointments again.  Sagem Morpho in my state has at least a month's wait for even an appointment, and then it takes 6-8 weeks at least for the background checks to be completed.

Re: Fingerprints question

  • That's a good question.  I know with our agency we had to use the exact fingerprinting company they chose.  I'm a teacher also and had previously had fingerprints done, but those prints couldn't be used.

I'm guessing it's up to each individual adoption agency...

  • I think you have to ask your agency. Our agency really had nothing to do with the fingerprinting or background checking process. We got the fingerprints whereever we wanted and sent them off to be checked and the background results were then sent to either us or the agency depending on what it was. So if it's like that, you could use the ones already taken, but you still would have to get them printed out.
  • I live in NJ and work for the state legislature here.  Unfortunately, you'll almost certainly have to get re-printed.  I've also been fingerprinted many times, and the standard answer I always get is that they can't share your prints due to privacy concerns.
  • My husband has security clearances and background check (with prints) through the Department of Defense and a local school district for coaching.

We had to do his prints again. . .twice!

  • I would ask the agency. I really don't know. I had fingerprints done eons ago, but I think it was done before digital, so it was better for me to start from scratch.

You can get the done at select UPS stores if you have to go that route.

  • I am a teacher and had to have the fingerprinting done again.  For my home study, it had to be current (like during the time of the study).  I had it done in Jan. 06 and May 07 and I'm having to go today to get it done to renew my teaching certificate.  I almost feel like a criminal....LOL!

  • I had my fingerprints done previously, but even though it was through the same company it had different letter head so I had to have them done again. Be sure to ask right away because my agency didn't tell us there was a problem until right before our approval meeting.

  • W had to get our done again even though we have both had ours done in the past. We also had to do another set for the goverment here.
  • My agency said yes. No matter who/why they were done before, they would have to be re done. Bonus is, she says (at least here in CA) they tend to see them come back quicker when they have been done for other reasons.
