*Jodi*

So a friend from my FB put a spin of the status I copied from you as her status... (I didnt want to post it on FB in case she saw it)...wanted to get your take...I commented and I'm pretty sure I'm now in an argument with her SIL....

For all those that feel America is shameful, you are more than welcome to pack your bags and head on over to Haiti! BUT...if you stay here you can walk down to DSS and get food stamps AND they put you up in a hotel if the homeless shelters are full. Imagine you're in Haiti right now, not knowing where your next meal i...s coming from while you wait to find out if your family is dead or alive.

Re: *Jodi*

  • So true!  All of these people complaining that America doesn't do enough, um yea....we have free medical benefits already (by state) and free food (shelters, soup kitchens) and free lodging (shelters).

    WORLDS beyond what Haiti has.

But really, America should really keep it's money here.

The more knowledge I get about this, the more freaking ANGRY I get about this crap.

  • I don't get how people can feel that America OWES them something?  Really?

So that is my argument now.....do you REALLY feel America OWES YOU something?  Really?  Seriously?

  • Yeah- when I originally commented on her status I put this:

Did you read my status? My friend from a message board came up with that today I loved it so much I asked her if I can borrow it. I think with situations like this (meaning the Haiti situation) it doesn't matter if where these people are from- THEY ARE PEOPLE and they need help. If we (meaning anyone- not America all in themselves just anyone) can help them than I think that we should.

Her SIL replied with this: Jess I'm sorry I have to disagree when I was recently down on my luck I was refused food stamps and health care and almost lost my home okay so let's give to them when I worked my whole life in the good old USA and was in Marine Corp and still can't get help now that is F----- Up

And then I replied with this: Carla- I think you misread what I wrote. I didn't say that AMERICA the country should have to provide for all countries that need help- I said ANYONE WHO WAS ABLE whether they were American or not... say I had 10k just laying around and I wanted to donate 5k to the Haitians then I should be able to if I wanted; they are people no matter where they are from.

  • I also think that one of my biggest issues with all of this- along with what you pointed out about everyone thinking that America owes them something- is that people are actually getting their panties in a freakin' bunch b/c the Haitians are being helped. They are PEOPLE. Does it really matter where they are from?! PEOPLE. UGH.
