Adoption

Abby's One True Gift

Hi, Everyone-

I haven't been on here for awhile...Been doing some homework on adoption.  We've taken the first steps and talked to an adoption counselor and pretty much decided to use Abby's One True Gift.  Is there anyone out there that is/has worked with this adoption agency?  How was your experience?  Did you use the traditional or matching service?  Thanks for any help!

  • Hi, and welcome to the board!

I highly recommend researching any agency you are considering to make sure it abides by ethical standards.  For domestic agencies, a great place to look them up is on the yahoo group called "AARD" (Adoption Agency Research ? Domestic).  That group is dedicated to giving honest feedback on agencies.  You can ask about the agencies you are interested in directly, and also search their archives and files.

    Good luck!

  • I have no personal knowledge or?experience?with this agency, but I do know of two people on a different adoption board I am on who did not like this agency at all. ?The basically lost all of their money and the agency wanted them to sign an agreement saying that they would never say anything bad about them if they wanted 25% of their money back. ?They chose not to sign the agreement so they could warn others about Abby's. ?This is just two peoples opinions, but I thought I would share. ?Ask about their media agreement and see if they are still running things this way.

Actually, this is good advice for any adoption agency -- to be sure to look out for gag clauses, media agreements, and the like, and know what their contract requires of you.
