Do you think text messaging is really messing up people's grammar?
I have a 20 year old cousin, who is very smart, but her texting drives me crazy. She writes things like sumpin (instead of something), and jus (instead of just). I am really starting to wonder about the future of grammar with the popularity of texting.
Re: This isn't baby related but text messaging
Yeah that is true...I understand people doing things like ur and u, etc...but I guess I feel like word such as just shouldn't be abbreviated to jus..is it really that much more time consuming to add the t? And sumpin? That one doesn't make much sense to me lol.
This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I guess I'm just OCD but I always type out every word. It really bothers me on facebook too, using numbers for words (2, 4, 8, like str8). I almost had to delete one girl because she used 3's for e's, 5's for S's, it's gotten ridiculous.
Another pet peeve, people using the wrong words...for example, lose/loose, feel/fill, advice/advise, so on and so forth!
ETA: Another thing that bothers me, since y'all asked
, not using punctuation. Point in case, this is str8 from facebook, lol. "So and so is sitting around the house with mark and saban is taking a nap we r so blessed love it!!"
I will admit to abbreviating, like fb, WM=Walmart, etc. but only when texting DH, my sister, and my mom.
Lol I know how you feel!
The number thing drives me nuts!!!!
Haha, this exactly!
Go figure...our culture demands communication concision to the point where we've diluted meaning through shorthand messages and smiley faces.
I've noticed recently there are some words that I have to think twice about re: spelling, due to common abbreviations {and I'm usually fairly versed in both grammar and spelling in professional/formal situations}.
The Baby Blog.
I feel the same way. I usually am embarrassed if I accidently do it myself!
totally in agreement w/you here.
I agree with this. It's definitely not doing anything to help grammar, that's for sure.
Yes, it bothers me too! Even my sister who is 4 years older than me texts this way. She has a Bachelors and a Masters!
It bugs the heck out of me for people to use numbers for words! You are not alone!

My sister (4 years older than me) and I were carrying on a convesation through text message and she sent "neway" I asked her what that was and she said "anyway". Ummm really? You just shortened it by one letter, did that really save you a lot of time?
