I am currently on oral contraceptives and have been for 5 or 6 years now. My fiance and I are getting married in June and I would like to use my BC to alter when I get my period (skip the placebos for the next month or 2) so that I do not have my period the same week as my wedding/honeymoon. I also plan to stop taking it a few months from now, and we are hoping to start TTC sometime next winter/spring. Will screwing with my period now have a negative effect on TTC a year from now? I know I'm already messing with mother nature with the BC... but it would also be nice to not have my period over my wedding/honeymoon! Any thoughts or ideas?? ![]()
Re: Birth Control Question!
Shouldn't affect your fertility. I had to the do the same thing for my wedding but I switched it to come a week earlier.
I never took the placebos. I took active pills non-stop for 3 years. I have had no trouble coming off the pills and resumed a normal cycle right away.
I've yet to determine whether or not I will have trouble TTC.
This. With my doctor's approval, I tried to skip a period (about 6 months prior to my wedding) and it didn't work at all. I had all kinds of breakthrough bleeding and my cycle was weird for two months after. (The Dr. had to give me a pregnancy test because I missed a period during the placebo pills one month.) Apparently that just happens for some people the first several times they try to skip a period. I had no idea.
My best friend did the same thing for her wedding and the doctor told her to start trying a year to a year and a half after getting off of bc. Just be careful! I am sure you will be fine, but I would def. talk to your doctor.
This. I just quit BCP in December and my first cycle was 35 days. I will see how/if it will effect TTC or my next cycles.
