Trying to Get Pregnant

Birth Control Question!

I am currently on oral contraceptives and have been for 5 or 6 years now.  My fiance and I are getting married in June and I would like to use my BC to alter when I get my period (skip the placebos for the next month or 2) so that I do not have my period the same week as my wedding/honeymoon.  I also plan to stop taking it a few months from now, and we are hoping to start TTC sometime next winter/spring.  Will screwing with my period now have a negative effect on TTC a year from now?  I know I'm already messing with mother nature with the BC... but it would also be nice to not have my period over my wedding/honeymoon!  Any thoughts or ideas?? Smile

  • Shouldn't affect your fertility. I had to the do the same thing for my wedding but I switched it to come a week earlier.

  • First off, talk to your doctor about skipping your placebo pills. There are only certain types of BCP you should do this with. I did the same thing for my wedding. It took about 2 cycles to get back to how my cycle "normally" was, then stopped BCP 5 months later. I don't know if/how it's affected TTC, but I'm currently on cycle 8. Talk to your doctor and read TCOYF. Congrats on the wedding and GL with TTC!
  • I did this for my honeymoon.  My cycles have been crazy since going off but that can by typical with going off BCP and I don't think it had anything to do with forcing a missed period.

  • I never took the placebos. I took active pills non-stop for 3 years. I have had no trouble coming off the pills and resumed a normal cycle right away.

I've yet to determine whether or not I will have trouble TTC.

This.  With my doctor's approval, I tried to skip a period (about 6 months prior to my wedding) and it didn't work at all.  I had all kinds of breakthrough bleeding and my cycle was weird for two months after.  (The Dr. had to give me a pregnancy test because I missed a period during the placebo pills one month.)  Apparently that just happens for some people the first several times they try to skip a period.  I had no idea.

  • Definitely talk to your doctor because I attempted this for my wedding week and ended up making my self spot because my body wasn't sure what to do with the surge of hormones. Just like the commercials for the OC's that allow you to skip your period say there is still a chance that you will have spotting or break through bleeding.

  • It's hard to say what your body will do. I tried that and had my pill period all.month.long so needless to say i did not try that again! Good luck though and congrats on the wedding!

  • My best friend did the same thing for her wedding and the doctor told her to start trying a year to a year and a half after getting off of bc.  Just be careful!  I am sure you will be fine, but I would def. talk to your doctor.

This. I just quit BCP in December and my first cycle was 35 days. I will see how/if it will effect TTC or my next cycles.
