We all know how hard bedrest is and we wish everyone a healthy pregnancy!!!! Anyone is welcome to join, and anyone can start this daily thread. Just copy and paste this paragraph and info lines below if you get here and the thread has yet to start for that day!

Name - Michelle

Due Date - 4/20

Date Placed on Bedrest - at 14wks

Type - modified bedrest at home

Why - herniated disks in back/now contractions!

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- We are using cloth diapers and just got the ones we'd ordered in last night!  We are using cloth because both DH and I are very enviromentally concerned and also because I feel that it is better for LO"s butt.  The babies in my family tend to have very sensitive skin and break out badly.  Both my brother and I had to have cloth and I wish my bro & sil would have used them for my niece because she had rashes so bad she had open sores.

Someone had asked awhile back what kind I was using.  I couldn't remember the names so here: Newborn Whisper Covers, SoftBums One Size, and G'Diapers.  We are using a combo for a few reasons.  The G'Diapers have flushable inserts available for when others are diapering and not ok with cloth.  The Newborn Whisper Cover are very small and will fit Livy when she's tiny and we fell in love with the SoftBums.  They are amazing!

Updates- Well, I woke up at 9:30am and didn't go to sleep last night untill 6:30am...so I'm really tired. Ugh, and today we meet with our doula, so no nap!  Very tired.  But starting last evening, I got hungry and have been since, despite eating.  So I'm wondering if my body has realized I'm pregnant and need to nourish Livy.  I can only hope!!  We'll see if it lasts, but I'm thrilled because I've never been really hungry and it certainly has never lasted!  I'm 28wks today ladies and nervous.  I know that it's way to soon to deliver, but can feel it creeping closer and closer.  I'm terrified I'll miss a sign that something is wrong and not go in and hurt my baby. But then I worry that I'm just a worry-wort/over-reactive Mom.

Hope you all are happy and well today.  Take care of yourselves, keep resting and listen to your bodies.  Some of you ladies have me worried out there...know that you are in my T&P's and I want your LO's to keep cooking!!

  • Name - Lauren

    Due Date - 3/23

Date Placed on Bedrest - 1st tri and now again officially 1/4

    Type - strict hospital bedrest

    Why - IUGR

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- Our original plan had been to use disposable for the first like month then use cloth. My sister CD'd her 3 boys and offered to give us all her newborns and small sized diapers (her youngest is now 10months) and trade us out as she stopped using the larger sizes we could use them. She used mostly prefolds w/ covers and once the baby gets to size 1 she has a bunch of AIO (all in 1's) too...we honestly were going to CD just to save money, since I am going to be a SAHM we figured we might as well try it and save money where we can but now since we know little buddy is going to be so small, in the NICU, etc. I am going to do whatever is easiest and most convenient but I would like to try CD eventually esp since I can essentially start it for free (and at least get a good idea of what kind of CD we like) Plus Ive heard that you have less leaks when you CD which means less clean-up for me :-)

Updates- no real updates, I am "hosting" a baby shower for my friend this saturday (I planned it and ordered invites right before I came into the hospital, now her sister and my other friend are taking over the physical hosting part) and my friends sister is bringing lunch and coming to the hospital to talk about final plans...I finally found some pain meds that helped my pain last night (I wasnt up till 630 michelle but I was up till 3 and it sucked too!) I compromised w/ myself mentally and said that if I take a darvocet for pain I wont take ambien for sleep--hence the being up till 3am

**michelle--that is so exciting that your doula is coming! Its always so exciting to talk out birth plans, what delivery is going to be like, etc.! Have fun! And as for the eating stuff I can totally relate, I still have no appetite after all the hyperemesis crap I had in the beginning, I know this might piss some people off but I have struggled to gain weight my whole pg, I finally got weighed yesterday for the 1st time in a month and a half and I had only gained 1lb :-/ In any other circumstance I would be pumped to not be gaining weight but doesnt my body know I'm pregnant and need the extra calories!? Weight gain wouldnt be a huge concern for me except for w/ the IUGR I'm so worried that I'm not doing enough to be helping the baby...

Date Placed on Bedrest - 34 weeks

Type - modified bedrest at home

Why -PTL  dialated and light contractions

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- Disposable because i can't imagine having time for cloth and I never really thought much about using them

Updates- Dr's appt this morning went well.  Still 1-2 cm dialated and the head is still -2.  I love the NST, that recliner is so nice at the office.  Heart rate was good and baby was active.  Had the strep-B test today.  I did have a few contractions on the monitor so she said I could take the procardia more often if I felt them more often.  She said keep doing what I am doing.  I can't say I am really on even modified bed rest since I still cook light meals and take the kids to school.  I just try to take it easy and take lots of rests.  Still need to think more about names.  Right now we like Lucas, Ryan or Josh(my DS's fav.)

  • I forgot to answer yesterday's Q about natural birth so here goes...We have lots of friends who have gone the natural, at-home route and they all have such beautiful, happy stories.  Then I listen to people who have gone the other route and hear horror stories...that was huge.  If you thought birth was so awful, why would I want to do the same thing as you?  Also, I'm not afraid at all.  I really feel that I can do this and this is what I'm made for.  My DH is an amazing man with so much support for me. Even if I didn't think I could do it, I know that he could get me through it.  Seriously...I know that no matter what, he will be rock through birth.  Anything I need.

I also really want to BF successfuly and having a med-free baby seems to encourage that.  I would also like to avoid a c-section and using meds makes that risk go up.  Besides all these points, I'm terrified of needles, therefor a epi, iv, and cathater are things that make me want to puke.

I guess the biggest reason is I just feel like I can.  I want to have this experience to connect with Olivia, to work with her and my DH as a team in the miracle of giving birth.  I feel like this is what I'm made for.  My docs are really questioning if it's going to be possible for me, but I want to try so badly.  So here's to proving them wrong...after all, somethings gotta go right with pregnancy, right?!

  • Name - Brittany

    Due Date - 3/4

Date Placed on Bedrest - 1/18

Type - bedrest at home since yesterday strict bedrest in the hospital

Why - started with severe swelling. Now I am preeclamptic.

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- Disposable. I was really wanting to do cloth. But this is some thing I know and I feel it will be easier for me. And we really don't have the money to invest up front on starting with good cloth diapers.

Updates- Let me start by saying I am scared. Calming down now. My BP has been staying around 144/72 and most recently was 150/92. My doc is worried that I will just get worse and worse. He has seen with me coming in this past week that I am getting worse every two to three days. I had the option to go to Mayo today (for those ladies not from Minn. its the big shot hospital in the state) to get tests there. I choose to stay here for the next 24 hours to be observed that way I can stay near family and stay calm. There is a good chance though that Connor could be here with in the next few days. I am preeclamptic but not severe. And I have had the stupid shot in me for 24 hours so that is already helping Connor. Doc thinks he is around 5lbs. I will be starting my 24 hour urine collection. Right now it is looking like it would be a miricle if I made it to 36 weeks.

I find it interesting that the other day I said I felt stupid for being on bedrest and now I am one of those ladies. What I mean by that is I watched their (some of you too) stories and was just in awe. I didn't know how they did it and not go crazy with worry.

At this point I am just trying to prepare. Neither of SO or I's car works and we thought we had more time to get the money to pay for Connor's circumsion. Money is so tight and I know that is not the most important thing but it is a concern.

**Michelle-Go take a nap missy. I would totally nap but they are re-doing the floors in the hallway...LOUD! I send you sticky baby.

**Lauren-The baby shower will be a nice distraction. Even though you won't be there I am sure it will be nice to hear all about it and what not. I am glad you found pain meds that help. Sounds like we are all having rough nights sleep. I wasn't up till 6:30 or 3. I ended up passing out at 11 woke up at midnight for tests. Then at 4:30 for tests. Then 5:30 for that shot. I hope things go well. Keep that baby in!

**Michelle S-Glad there has not been progress in dialating. You are getting so close! Glad he is active too. I love feeling Connor. I really like Josh and Lucas. All three names are very classic and I think are wonderful. Let us know when you pick!

**Natural Birth Mamas-I have been doing a lot of reading and seeing a lot of shows with it. I am still choosing meds because I am not ready to go natural. Most likely with a future child but I feel happy with my choice to use meds. Thank you though for your reasons. I like hearing about it.

P.S. Blood pressure just taken. 150/72

    Why - PIH.

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- We are planning on using disposables. We might try cloth but my MIL will be watching him when I go back to work. I think it would be easier for her to use disposables.

Updates- This is my fist day on this board. I got back from L&D yesterday and started bedrest today.

    Take care ladies!

    Due Date - 3/18

Date Placed on Bedrest -1/12 (31 weeks) at home

Type - Strict Bed rest at home

Why - Low lying placenta and a bleed in a blood vessel attached to the placenta

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer - Disposable....honestly with a 2 yr old already in the house I am going for what is easiest. Plus my mom will be watching the baby once I return to work and she doesn't want to have to mess with that.

Update - had my biweekly Dr's appt this morning. Baby is doing good. I have another U/S sched for 2/10 to check on my placenta - I am running out of time for this darn thing to move up. At this point they are concerned that I could havge severe bleeding during delivery if it stays at the current spot - so if I don't make any more progress I might be headed for a c-section. If I make progress, then they are going to induce me about a week early as my labor with DD was very fast (7hrs) so they want to have this planned so that I don't end up having this kid in the car or something ;). So if we induce baby will be here tentively on 3/10. I just hate having the UNKNOWN looming around me......

The other sucky thing was my laptop died this weekend....a good way to make a bedrest mama cry is to kill her laptop!!! Thank god I have my work computer so at least I can use that a bit - though I don't like to surf too much using that - so I am in the process of trying to get a new laptop for home.

Why - low fluid, baby is a week behind, so on and so forth

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- disposable, cloth dia[ers are too much work and i dont want to handle poop that much.

  • Name - Chelsea

    Due Date - 2/16

Date Placed on Bedrest - 34 weeks (1/4)

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why -PTL, dilation,and shortened cervix

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- Disposable - I guess I never really considered cloth. I have a few though.

Updates- I was getting bored reading these everyday and not posting so I thought I should post today and offer some encouragement. I made it 37 weeks as of today and my bedrest is officially done :-). I get my membranes stripped tomorrow. I have been feeling tired but other than that I'm okay so I bet this baby will cook longer. Hang in there ladies! Bedrest works!

  • Name - Lisa

Due Date - 4/28 (but hoping for March with the triplets)

Date Placed on Bedrest - at 26wks, 1/22

Type - strict bedrest at home (only up for bathroom and shower)

    Why - PTL - 1cm dilated, contractions

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer: well, we looked into cloth, but with three babies coming we decided it would just be too hard. We're hoping to compromise with disposables that are chlorine-free (like 7th Generation)

Update: had MFM appt today. Cervix is still long (3.8cm) and still a fingertip dilated. Babies are looking great on u/s. Found out that Baby C's head is wedged in my ribs, which would explain the pain on my right side!

    ***hang in there everyone!***

Answer: I haven't looked into this yet.

Update: No updates for today.  Just trying to take it one day at a time.  My goals seem so faraway.  All I think about is making it to 24 weeks so I can get the steroid shots so my baby has a chance if he comes super early.  And then I REALLY want to make it to 28 weeks...and then 32.

I am trying not to read about preemies because I don't want to add anymore worries to my plate right now.  I am consumed by worry and will be until I know this kid is going to be OK.

Why - high blood pressure; pre-e risk

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- I considered cloth, but then we decided on disposable.  I want to do cloth because I feel like it's the most environmentally responsible choice.  But, we decided that disposable would just work better for us.

Updates-  I went to the perinatalogist today.  Everything was great with Baby Sam.  I mentioned the headaches, and he said that they didn't sound like pre-e headaches.  But, he still seemed a little concerned.  He asked me if I wore glasses and if I had my prescription changed recently.  I said no.  But, it really doesn't feel like an eye strain headache......  He also wants me to take my blood pressure when I see the floaters and flashes.  I'm still waiting on my 1 hour glucose tests results, the culture from my urine sample which was done on Friday, and my 24 hour urine test results.  Uggghhhh!  I hate waiting!  I guess medically that's pretty much it.

DH has been on a role lately.  LOL!  He bought all that stuff for me yesterday.  Today he's bought the replacement hardware we need for the crib, a car seat, and a changing table.  He's also looking at other stuff we still need.  I think HE'S going through nesting.  Hahaha!

**Brittany - I know you're scared.  But it will be ok.  Everything will work out fine.  GL and T&P!

**  Hope everyone else is doing ok.  Thank you Lauren and Michelle/Miaomi for the advice on the baby shower :)

    Why - amazing disappearing cervix

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- We are planning on disposable.  With twins, I can't imagine keeping up with cloth diapers.  Of course I would LOVE to be able to CD, because I don't really want to think about all the waste we'll be creating, but I need to be realistic.  I'll be working, my husband will be working, my mom will help out and we'll need some kind of nanny/helper... everyone knows how to use disposable.

Update-  Nothing new in pregnancy news.  My husband left town, I will miss him so much!  But I am still being taken good care of.

** Lauren and Michelle-- I am getting a lot of comments about how small I am, too.  It makes me nervous to have my growth scan in case my boys have not grown appropriately.  It is very hard to feel like you are doing right by these babies.

Question of the Day - What kind of diapers are you planning on using..disposable or cloth?  And why?

Answer- disposable.  i have horrible memories of cloth diapers from my younger sisters.

Update - I really admire women who can come to the hospital and just settle into a routine, I hate it here every minute of the day, all the mommies who just accept it and deal are saints to me.  I hated it with my first baby and it's even worse now that I miss him so much.  I cannot wait to deliver!
  • Hi ladies......Just doing a quick check-in tonight. Doc appointment went well today, however, about 2 hours ago I started contracting....BAD.
